Inversión y tipo de I+D

The Air Products Gas Converter is available for free download from global Apple® iTunes® Stores for use on iPhone®, iPad®, and iPod® touch devices. The new app enables users to quickly convert weight and volume measures for industrial gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, argon, hydrogen, helium, and carbon dioxide, as well as LNG/methane.

“Air Products developed the new app as a value-added tool for anyone who frequently uses units of measure that differ from those used by the industrial gas industry, giving them the ability to convert from one unit of measure to another, especially weights and volumes,” said Steve Ruoff, Metals Processing industry manager at Air Products. “We wanted a convenient tool that takes advantage of the digital technology everyone is using today and can be built upon in the future.”

When converting between liquid and gaseous units, the Gas Converter accounts for the unique properties of each industrial gas, particularly molecular weight and density. For LNG, the tool converts flow rates—including Diesel Gallon Equivalents—and allows the user to specify values for a number of variables.

In the past, Air Products has provided printed weight/volume conversion charts on business cards and currently provides interactive conversion tools on the company’s website. With the addition of the Gas Converter mobile app, users can quickly and easily access the tool anytime, anywhere.

The Air Products Gas Converter app can be downloaded at www.airproducts.com/gasconverter.

About Air Products
Air Products (NYSE:APD) provides atmospheric, process and specialty gases; performance materials; equipment; and technology.

A propos d’Air Products
Accurate data is not only important in emissions-testing applications to ensure compliance with environmental legislation it can also provide managers with vital insights into the quality or efficiency of their production processes too.

Showcasing BIP® technology
Among the products being showcased at WWEM 2012, is Air Products’ patented BIP® technology – cylinders that contain gases such as helium, argon, nitrogen and hydrogen, with less than 10 ppb oxygen and less than 20 ppb moisture right to the last molecule. Often used as carrier gases in Gas Chromatography, these ultra-high purity gases can help to improve the accuracy and consistency of the analytical results while extending the life of the ‘column’ by reducing the risk of damage due to impurities in the carrier gas.

Gas mixtures with a 10-year shelf life
When the highest standards of accuracy are required, most analysts prefer to use calibration gas mixtures that specify uncertainties for each gas component individually and offer full traceability to national standards. Recent advances in the manufacture of these gas mixtures mean that many in Air Products’ range now come with up to a 10-year shelf life so that accurate calibration is maintained over many years without the need to buy replacement calibration mixture cylinders.

Non-refillable cylinders
Air Products has recently introduced to its portfolio a new range of non-refillable cylinders to help meet demand for applications where ease of use and portability are critical. Switching to non-refillable cylinders for low volume applications allows gas users to avoid rental charges when using smaller volumes of gas and benefit from speedy delivery of a wide range of standardised mixtures. These mixtures have been developed specifically for use in gas detection and other specialist laboratory applications.

Halia® oxygen technologies for the water and wastewater treatment market
For over 30 years Air Products supports customers with a number of Halia® water treatment solutions, promoting sustainability and waste water reuse. Through the combination of proven experience and commitment to innovation, with Halia®oxygen applications,Air Products can help solve treatment challenges like increase a plant efficiency whilst eliminating issues with odour or foam, reducing micro-contaminants or limiting the production of sludge volumes.

Gary Yates, Air Products’ European Product Manager Analytical and Laboratories, said:
“Air Products is at the forefront of development of specialty gas products to fulfil the most demanding laboratory and industry requirements. “Our products are designed and developed with the end user in mind and we know that their main concerns are accuracy and reliability, combined with functionality. We also know that cost is an increasingly important factor and we can help by developing products that extend the life of the column or come with an extended shelf-life.”

For more information about Air Products’ Experis® range of gases for laboratory and emissions-testing applications or Halia® technologies, phone 0800 389 0202 or email apukinfo@airproducts.com.

Notes to Editors:

About Air Products
Air Products (NYSE:APD) provides atmospheric, process and specialty gases; performance materials; equipment; and technology. Pour plus d’informations, rendez-vous sur
www.airproducts.com.

* A propos du service CryoEase®

The Halia system will treat 30 million gallons of surface water per day using HiPOx®1 technology—an ozone-based advanced oxidation process (AOP)—to destroy atrazine, control bromate formation, and meet virus inactivation requirements for health and human safety.

Atrazine, a known endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC) and the main ingredient in about 40 name-brand herbicides, is showing up in drinking water supplies, causing concern among regulatory agencies throughout the United States. Herbicides often move with rainwater from the point of application to nearby bodies of water, such as reservoirs, ponds and lakes, eventually finding their way into drinking water supplies.

“Air Products is helping to drive sustainable water supply by enabling communities to use more of their water,” said Shaun C. Porter, water industry specialist at Air Products. “The Halia advanced oxidation system can help meet disinfection requirements while also destroying trace contaminants and minimizing the formation of by-products, such as bromate, making it ideal for drinking water applications, as well as water reuse and process water clean-up.”

In the Halia AOP, the HiPOx reactor efficiently injects and mixes ozone and hydrogen peroxide to maximize the production of hydroxyl free radicals—one of the most powerful oxidants available for water treatment—to treat various compounds. HiPOx AOP is significantly more efficient than ozone alone with respect to both ozone dose and reaction time, enabling lower operating costs and improved performance with a smaller equipment footprint. HiPOx technology is the first ozone-based technology accepted by the State of California for unrestricted water reuse under Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations.

Air Products has more than 30 years of experience in water and wastewater services, with a broad range of solutions marketed under the Halia trade name. However, increasing levels of microconstituents such as pharmaceuticals and endocrine disrupting compounds (EDC) have forced municipalities to turn to new technologies to manage their water resources. These are just some of the learnings from a recent water reuse seminar in Deerfield Beach, Fla., sponsored by Air Products (NYSE:APD) and Heyward Incorporated.

Renowned water reuse expert and keynote speaker, Dr.Shane Snyder, research and development project manager, Southern Nevada Water Authority, noted that all water has been, or will be reused and that global sustainability depends on water recycling.

To overcome the challenges of rising populations and urban density coupled with the rise in detectable levels of microconstituents, communities have turned to advanced methods of water treatment including ozone advanced oxidation technologies. “Ozone is the most promising technology that can efficiently and thoroughly provide disinfection and reduction of most emerging contaminants,” said Snyder.

In fact, Air Products’ Halia™ Advanced Oxidation System incorporating the HiPOx® technology, an ozone-based advanced oxidation process (AOP), has recently been granted conditional acceptance by the California Department of Public Health for unrestricted water reuse under Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations. This acceptance makes the HiPOx reactor the first ozone-based technology validated to meet disinfection criteria for treating wastewater and making it available for several water reuse applications including unrestricted irrigation, aquifier storage recharge, and many other nonpotable and potable reuse applications.

The HiPOx technology is a packaged water treatment system with a unique plug flow reactor that efficiently injects and mixes ozone with hydrogen peroxide to maximize the production of hydroxyl free radicals. Hydroxyl free radicals are the most powerful oxidants available for water treatment to destroy pathogens and difficult to treat organic contaminants including 1,4-dioxane, chlorinated solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons, and EDC. The HiPOx reactor has the flexibility to operate in either ozone only mode or AOP mode with peroxide addition. Additionally, in the AOP mode, HiPOx technology has the capability to provide patented bromate control.

Beyond disinfection, several studies have been conducted on the presence of EDCs, pharmaceuticals, and other emerging contaminants in drinking water and wastewater. Ozone and ozone-based AOP have been shown to provide superior results over conventional ultra violet and chlorine-based disinfection technologies. While many EDCs and other trace organics are not yet regulated, it is anticipated these emerging compounds will guide water treatment design and technology selection in the future. HiPOx technology provides a superior platform for meeting both water reuse disinfection guidelines and destroying EDCs and other trace organics for the proactive protection of human health and the environment.

To view the presentations from this seminar, including Mr. Snyder’s, please visit: > www.airproducts.com/haliawatersolutions/elearning_center

Air Products holds the exclusive rights to market HiPOx technology, licensed from Applied Process Technology, Inc., in the United States and Canada for municipal wastewater and drinking water applications at designated flow rates.

Air Products (NYSE:APD) serves customers in industrial, energy, technology and healthcare markets worldwide with a unique portfolio of atmospheric gases, process and specialty gases, performance materials, and equipment and services.

It brings other important benefits too like odour and foam reduction and due to the improved settlement that occurs when using pure oxygen, the process is capable of producing less sludge.”

The modular range of OXY-DEP® VSA wastewater treatment systems are now available in three sizes, according to the amount of pure oxygen they are capable of producing each day – 260kg, 875kg and 5 tonne.

According to Philip Whittaker, the five tonne system will be particularly useful for customers looking to upgrade existing wastewater treatment processes, without incurring a significant capital cost. He says:

“Compared with traditional aeration systems, on site oxygen generation has become more viable in recent years. Such systems increase the performance of the wastewater treatment process, without incurring any significant overheads or causing downtime during installation.”

For more information about Air Products wastewater treatment systems, visit www.airproducts.co.uk/environmental or email wwsolney@airproducts.com.

Note to editor:
Air Products (NYSE:APD) serves customers in industrial, energy, technology and healthcare markets worldwide with a unique portfolio of atmospheric gases, process and specialty gases, performance materials, and equipment and services. The guidance sets out the role of environmental quality standards in implementing the Water Framework Directive, explains the range of new standards that have been developed by the UK environment agencies and considers the way in which the Directive’s costs and benefits should be balanced.

Philip Whittaker, Air Products’ business development lead for water systems, at Air Products, said:

“This new guidance comes as a timely reminder to industrial, landfill management and agricultural businesses that the implementation of the Water Framework Directive is well underway and the first draft River Basin Management Plans will be in place from the end of this year.

“Companies that are involved in activities that could potentially cause pollution of the water environment, even by diffuse pollution, will need to adopt best practice standards of emissions control.”

To meet demand for tighter wastewater emission control technologies, Air Products has developed an innovative pure oxygen-based treatment system that is capable of treating effluent onsite, before it is released into the environment.

The OXY-DEP® VSA system, developed by Air Products, produces its own supply of high purity oxygen, for use during the wastewater treatment process. This oxygen is used to oxygenate the effluent or wastewater in the treatment basin, in a similar way to a traditional aeration process. The high purity of the oxygen allows a higher volume of contaminants to be removed in a much smaller treatment volume. Using pure oxygen that is generated onsite, rather than atmospheric air, gives the treatment system improved flexibility to meet variations in demand due to the type of contaminants being removed; their concentration or the volume of effluent requiring treatment.

Philip Whittaker added:

“Water companies and processing industries need to keep an open mind when it comes to wastewater treatment and regard the directive as an opportunity to drive efficiency by upgrading existing systems. Technologies are being enhanced on an ongoing basis and industries should review their options regularly.”

For advice about how to assess the efficiency of existing wastewater treatment systems, process managers should call 01270 614317 or visit www.airproducts.co.uk/environmental.

Note to Editor:
Air Products (NYSE:APD) serves customers in industrial, energy, technology and healthcare markets worldwide with a unique portfolio of atmospheric gases, process and specialty gases, performance materials, and equipment and services. The license agreement provides Air Products exclusive rights to market the technology in the United States and Canada for municipal wastewater and drinking water applications at greater than one million gallons per day water flow rate. The agreement also provides Air Products non-exclusive access to other geographic regions, as well as industrial wastewater and groundwater remediation applications of the technology.

HiPOx technology uses an advanced oxidation process which combines ozone and hydrogen peroxide to form hydroxyl radicals. The hydroxyl radicals oxidize organic contaminants in water without creating additional waste streams. Unlike other ozone-based advanced oxidation systems, HiPOx technology minimizes the formation of by-products, such as bromate, making it ideal for drinking water applications in addition to remediation, wastewater and process water clean-up. The applications for the technology include taste, odor, and color reduction, destruction of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), water disinfection for reuse, and removal of microcontaminants such as endocrine disruptors.

“This technology is a significant building block for our water treatment business. Water treatment is an important growth area for Air Products, building on our gases experience and expanding into new equipment-based solutions. Our existing water treatment business has focused primarily on industrial wastewater applications. HiPOx technology combined with other internally developed offerings provides an entry for Air Products into the drinking water and water reuse segments,” said Deborah Anderson, business development manager for North America Merchant Gases at Air Products.

“It is great to be working with Air Products on this and we’re very excited about the potential HiPOx penetration of the market moving forward,” said Terry Applebury, Applied’s president and CEO. “Applied was founded on the premise that the drinking water industry was faced with a growing array of new and emerging man-made chemical contaminants and that the industry would recognize the value of a technology like HiPOx. The complement of Applied’s ‘clean water, no waste’ philosophy and Air Products’ expansion of their water treatment initiatives will be a benefit to municipalities and others needing treatment. Our team takes great pride in being associated with Air Products’ pursuit of this market.”

For more information about Air Products’ water systems offerings, visit www.airproducts.com\watersystems.

About Air Products

Air Products (NYSE:APD) serves customers in industrial, energy, technology and healthcare markets worldwide with a unique portfolio of atmospheric gases, process and specialty gases, performance materials, and equipment and services.

Mon, 26 Nov 2007 00:00:00 -0500
