Wed, 14 Aug 2013 00:00:00 -0400{07A47006-58C5-42A9-BDA7-ED8A45E0FDCC}http://www.airproducts.com/Company/news-center/2013/05/0514-air-products-to-feature-industrial-gas-based-technologies-for-powder-and-bulk-solids-market.aspxAir Products to Feature Industrial Gas-Based Technologies for the Powder and Bulk Solids Market at PBE 2013
Air Products (NYSE:APD) will feature a range of industrial gas-based technologies and process improvement solutions that can help powder and bulk solids processors operate more efficiently and cost effectively at PBE 2013 in Columbus, Ohio, from May 22-23.

As a leading industrial gas supplier and cryogenic solutions provider, Air Products’ technical specialists can work with powder and bulk solids processors to help identify ways to more efficiently handle a variety of materials in many processes―from grinding to dust collection.

This was just one of the messages delivered by Air Products’ (NYSE: APD) PRISM Membrane Group director of operations and technology Charlie Page in his opening session keynote speech today at the 22nd Annual North American Membrane Society (NAMS) Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana.

“Membranes as a technology have been known for a long time, but their use as a commercial product in gas separations has only been fairly recent. Developments in polymer sciences dating back many years led to discoveries of synthetic materials mimicking natural membranes that were capable of performing interesting industrial separations,” Page told the audience.

Page delivered a retrospective synopsis of the evolution of the commercialization of membrane technology into the industrial sector in his address. With 30 years experience, he began work in this area much earlier and joined Air Products’ membrane business via a 1991 technology acquisition. Page continued as global membrane product owner before assuming commercial responsibility for Air Products’ PRISM Membranes Group in 2000 and became program director in 2008.

Page said he was honored to give the keynote address. “This type of opportunity is a real honor when you consider the long list of distinguished membrane experts who have given keynote talks in the past,” he said.

In looking both back to the past and ahead to the future of membrane technology, Page noted that Air Products has spent many years working with aerospace and transportation industries in making the transport of people and materials safer for the world. “Perhaps our most important market segment in today’s business is in aerospace, specifically OBIGGS (On Board Inert Gas Generating System). Inerting of fuel tanks for the prevention of fire and explosions has taken a long time to develop. Today, we supply membranes for both military and commercial passenger aircraft. Almost all new production aircraft are being equipped with membranes. OBIGGS will be a key market for many applications for many years requiring large numbers of high performance membranes,” Page said.

He added that it is not just planes, but also trains that Air Products has played a role with safe travel. “In fact, Air Products membranes have even provided oxygen enriched air that is used on high altitude trains in Tibet to partially offset the decreased cabin pressure and ensure passenger safety,” he said.

In looking forward, Page also noted that Air Products’ development of ceramic membranes for oxygen production, with much support from the United States Department of Energy, is a potential game changing enabler for clean energy production. “We need to keep finding new technologies that will address the pressing needs of a world with increasingly depleted resources,” he said.

With more than 500 of the large process gas systems installed, and over 100 thousand nitrogen and air dehydration membranes shipped to customers across many applications, Page said he takes great pride in the reliable and long-term stable performance these units have displayed. “By long term, we mean years, not hours or days. We are also quite proud that we have maintained a ’green’ factory with respect to our environmental impact,” he said.

Air Products is the worldwide leader in production of gas separation and purification membranes. Membrane technology is used to separate and purify gases. Membrane modules contain thousands of hollow fibers to provide high processing capacity in a compact unit. Membranes are often used to produce nitrogen from compressed air; for hydrogen recovery and purification; for ratio adjustment to balance a mix of gases; air and gas dehydration to remove water, which can impact compressed gas performance; and natural gas treatment for removal of impurities.

Nitrogen membrane demand is driven by product needs from the chemical production, food processing, liquefied natural gas, oil and gas, transportation, and mining industries. Hydrogen membranes are used in chemical, refining, and biofuels processes. Dehydration membranes are used in compressed air systems and for high pressure requirements such as natural gas dehydration. Air Products' PRISM® membranes have been used to produce gases to inert fuel tanks aboard aircraft; for use in coal mine methane recovery operations in China; to enrich oxygen for passengers on the world's longest and highest highland railway, the Qinghai-Tibet railway; and to produce nitrogen for blanketing chemical, methanol, and liquefied gas shipments around the globe.

Air Products' PRISM® line of gas generation systems supplied generated nitrogen and oxygen to more than 1,500 customers in over 30 countries worldwide. More information on PRISM(R) membrane systems can be found at www.airproducts.com/membranes.

Air Products (NYSE:APD) provides atmospheric, process and specialty gases; performance materials; equipment; and technology.

* A propos du service CryoEase®

Pozwala nam to wspierać klientów przy projektowaniu i wdrażaniu opłacalnych technologii rozdrabniania” – powiedział Neil Hansford, specjalista Air Products ds. zastosowań kriogenicznych.

Młyn PolarFit™ firmy Air Products do ultra drobnego rozdrabniania kriogenicznego, zainstalowany w Bobingen, zapewnia stałą, wysoką jakość materiału wyjściowego.

A propos d’Air Products :

This flexible grinding system can generate consistent yields of particles between 45 and 250 microns (60 and 325 mesh), and in some cases as small as 10 microns. Now available globally in a range of sizes to match individual customer needs, the mill is ideal for cryogenic size reduction of a wide range of materials, including pigments, plastics, powder coatings, thermoplastic elastomers, waxes, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, spices and other food products.

“The PolarFit ultra-fine-grinding mill offers advanced technology to manufacturers who now may be able to grind product to finer particle sizes, with more uniform particle distribution and higher yields in their target range, than they could before with conventional grinding systems,” said Kimberly King, principal industry engineer for North America Merchant Gases at Air Products. “This can open up opportunities for new applications in a variety of markets.”

Air Products’ ultra-fine-grinding mill uses a combination of size reduction mechanisms, including impact, attrition and particle-particle collision, to achieve much smaller particle sizes than other mills. The mill has an easily adjustable grinding gap, which allows the production of particle sizes from ultra-fine to coarse, eliminating the need for other types of grinding equipment. Through its efficient use of liquid nitrogen, the Air Products mill can produce ultra-fine particle sizes, more uniform particle distribution and higher yields of particles in target range; improve product quality due to minimal or no heat damage; reduce waste and recycling; and lower production costs.

“Air Products’ ultra-fine-grinding mill uses the cooling power of liquid nitrogen to remove heat produced in the grinding process by controlling the temperature of the product or mill,” explained King. “The mill’s higher efficiency helps customers achieve a lower nitrogen-to-product ratio than can be achieved with other mills, further reducing their operating costs.”

Air Products has over 40 years of experience in applying cryogenics to grinding applications. The company provides ongoing technical support from its experienced staff and a reliable gas supply in a variety of modes to meet each customer’s requirements. With state-of-the-art trial facilities in Asia, Europe and the United States, Air Products can test a customer’s product to help them determine the feasibility and benefits of using the ultra-fine-grinding mill. The energy efficient ASU will replace older assets at the site and provide benefits to customers through higher-reliability pipeline oxygen and nitrogen supply, and enhanced production of merchant and electronics products including argon and xenon. The new ASU is to be on-stream in October 2011.

“This world-scale ASU at La Porte will serve customers across Air Products’ three major business areas of Tonnage Gases, Merchant Gases and Electronics and increase supply security and reliability. It will deliver significant productivity gains through decreased energy consumption and operating costs and supports the company’s sustainability goals,” said Stephen Jones, senior vice president and general manager–Tonnage Gases, Equipment and Energy at Air Products.

The new La Porte ASU will ensure the long-term operational viability and customer supply security of one of Air Products’ key liquid argon sources for the North American market. Argon is used primarily for welding, electronics, steel and metals processing applications. The plant also will expand Air Products’ xenon production capacity and improve customer supply security and reliability. Xenon continues to grow as a key material used in the etching steps of semiconductor manufacturing, and the additional volume will support growth in the emerging technologies of plasma display and other lighting applications which depend on xenon’s special properties.

The La Porte ASU is part of Air Products’ extensive Gulf Coast network of industrial gas facilities, pipelines and distribution assets. In addition to its oxygen, nitrogen and argon businesses, Air Products has the leading hydrogen position in the region comprised of numerous production facilities and over 450 miles of pipelines reaching from the Houston Ship Channel in Texas to Lake Charles, Louisiana, and from the city of Plaquemine, Louisiana to Chalmette, east of New Orleans.

Air Products (NYSE:APD) serves customers in industrial, energy, technology and healthcare markets worldwide with a unique portfolio of atmospheric gases, process and specialty gases, performance materials, and equipment and services.

Weitere Informationen finden Sie hier:

Tagesspiegel Presseartikel „Tausende LKW-Fahrer gesucht“

Wed, 27 Feb 2008 00:00:00 -0500{A76145A5-CFA6-403A-A55D-13411D199435}http://www.airproducts.com/Company/news-center/2007/09/0917-air-products-announces-north-american-price-increase.aspxAir Products Announces North American Price Increase For Several Liquid and Bulk Industrial Gas Products
Effective October 1, 2007, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE:APD) will increase schedule pricing on bulk helium by 30 percent, liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen by eight percent, liquid and bulk hydrogen by 12 percent, and liquid argon by 12 percent for merchant and government customers in North America.

The pricing initiatives are needed to address continued cost pressures and the need for ongoing investment in infrastructure to increase operating rates. The installation of Microbulk Solutions at a customer manufacturing facility located in Georgia marked the achievement of the global product offering first introduced in the United States in 2005, and offered in Europe prior to 1990. Microbulk Solutions is a novel gas supply and services option that provides the most technically-advanced and cost-effective alternative to traditional cylinder gas packaging in the marketplace.

“Microbulk delivery service and on-site storage and blending systems are very popular and have reached the 10,000th installation because the offering brings the advantages of bulk supply to operations with less than traditional bulk delivery volumes. At the 10,000th installation, Microbulk was the answer for our customer’s argon needs for vacuum furnaces. Whether it is argon or nitrogen for heat-treating furnace atmospheres, nitrogen or oxygen for laser-assist gases, or argon and argon blends for weld shielding, Microbulk supply can mean efficient, economical and reliable supply for small-volume users,” said John Tapley, Microbulk business development manager at Air Products.

Air Products’ Microbulk Solutions has had an impact for several markets including metals processing, biotechnology, foods, electronics and healthcare industries, and for applications with relatively small volume gas requirements. The service appeals to small-volume customers by virtually eliminating cylinder handling and reducing the number of product deliveries.

Microbulk tank trucks provide fast fills into storage tanks that are designed to offer customers a range of flexible supply options. They feature automatic fill shut-off devices; computer telemetry that remotely monitors tank levels, or programmable digital liquid level gauges to help customers monitor their inventory; and tanks with enhanced thermal qualities to limit product loss during periods of little or no use. Microbulk Solutions provide a much simplified supply chain option over the former gas supply practice of many industries’ processing operations that historically relied on high-pressure cylinders and dewars―a labor-intensive approach often resulting in wasted residual gas and the potential for interrupted supply, cross-contamination and safety issues.

Air Products (NYSE:APD) serves customers in industrial, energy, technology and healthcare markets worldwide with a unique portfolio of atmospheric gases, process and specialty gases, performance materials, and equipment and services. Founded in 1940, Air Products has built leading positions in key growth markets such as semiconductor materials, refinery hydrogen, home healthcare services, natural gas liquefaction, and advanced coatings and adhesives.
