Carburos Metálicos presenta la Criocámara de Cuerpo Entero en el Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell

Carburos Metálicos, que pertenece al grupo Air Products, ha presentado esta mañana la Criocámara de Cuerpo Entero, un innovador sistema de recuperación, que ya están utilizando algunos deportistas de élite y que utiliza nitrógeno líquido para enfriar el aire inferior a -120ºC. Este lanzamiento ha tenido lugar en el marco del Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell que se celebra en el Real Club Tenis Barcelona hasta el 24 de abril.

Diversos estudios científicos han demostrado que el tratamiento de crioterapia reduce el tiempo de recuperación, disminuye la inflamación de tejidos, músculos y articulaciones, mejora la circulación y cicatrización, y ralentiza el metabolismo celular. La Crioterapia de Cuerpo Entero se utiliza para tratar lesiones o cualquier sobrecarga y en la prevención de lesiones crónicas que se producen en los entrenamientos y preparaciones deportivas para distintas competiciones.

Carburos Metálicos, empresa gasista desde hace 119 años, comercializa las criocámaras fabricadas por las empresas tecnológicas CryoPod, para la producción de las cámaras de uso individual, y KrioSystem para las cámaras de grupo, con capacidad hasta 6 personas. Asimismo, realiza la instalación y suministra nitrógeno líquido indispensable para el funcionamiento de las mismas. En las cámaras móviles, el suministro se realiza con tanques CryoEase® de hasta 3.000 litros, mientras que en caso de las cámaras fijas el suministro se realiza con tanques criogénicos de mayor volumen o tanques CryoEase® externos.

El tratamiento de Crioterapia de Cuerpo Entero oscila entre uno y tres minutos aproximadamente. La exposición breve pero intensa a bajas temperaturas del cuerpo acelera la recuperación muscular tras un esfuerzo físico intenso, facilitando la asimilación de los diferentes beneficios terapéuticos.

Se trata de un tratamiento de crioterapia de cuerpo entero indirecto, en la que el nitrógeno no se inyecta en la cámara, sino que sólo enfría el aire de la misma, de esta forma se evitan posibles riesgos de asfixia por baja concentración de oxígeno y no hay riesgo de que el nitrógeno entre en contacto directo con el cuerpo evitando posibles quemaduras.

Desde el punto de vista de la sostenibilidad, el nitrógeno se consume durante las sesiones de crioterapia. Éste se gasifica en el intercambiador de calor y se conduce a la atmósfera, donde el nitrógeno ya representa el 79% del aire, no generando ningún residuo.

Diferentes clubs en el Reino Unido, Italia y Francia utilizan ya las criocámaras de Air Products en sus protocolos de entrenamiento. En los próximos meses también en España, Carburos Metálicos promocionará la Crioterapia de Cuerpo Entero para aplicarla a los principales clubes, federaciones y entidades deportivas que centran su actividad el ámbito del deporte profesional y de élite.

Air Products Fills 100th Helium ISO Container at Doe Canyon

Air Products (NYSE: APD), a global leader in helium production, recently reached a milestone at its newest helium production facility in Colorado by filling its 100th helium ISO container. Air Products’ Doe Canyon plant is the only one in the world extracting helium from a gas stream composed primarily of carbon dioxide (CO2). The helium from this facility strengthens and diversifies Air Products’ helium supply chain to further enable the reliable delivery of product for its customers around the world.

“We are very pleased with the operational performance of our Doe Canyon helium plant, which is one-of-a-kind and sets a new standard by producing helium from a naturally occurring carbon dioxide stream. We will continue to make the investments necessary to maintain the leading market position in this industry that we have established and enhanced over many decades,” said Walter Nelson, vice president and general manager – Global Helium at Air Products. “This facility could not have been achieved without the cooperation of our site host. They allowed us to move forward with this outside-the-box thinking to helium production.” The site host is Kinder Morgan CO2 Company, acting for and on behalf of the Doe Canyon Deep Unit, in its capacity as Unit Operator.

Much of the helium produced in the United States today comes from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) system. The BLM system is in decline, however, and eventually that storage supply will be depleted. At the same time, the world’s demand for helium is likely to continue to grow, requiring additional new sources of helium.

“This is not just another liquid helium plant. By using cutting-edge technology, combined with world class operations, we’re able to recover helium from CO2. It is one more step, in a series of steps, Air Products has taken to be the most reliable helium supplier in the world,” said Corning Painter, Air Products’ executive vice president - Industrial Gases.

Most of the helium produced today is a by-product of natural gas (methane) processing. However, not all natural gas fields contain helium and, in fact, very few gas fields have high enough helium concentrations to make it economical for extraction. In this case, the naturally-occurring gas is composed primarily of carbon dioxide, and it contains high enough concentrations of helium to make extraction economical. The Doe Canyon plant is expected to produce up to 230 million cubic feet of helium per year, which can replace more than 15 percent of the current BLM reserve helium supply as that system declines.

Air Products’ Colorado facility uses a new technology process to produce pure helium from the carbon dioxide stream. Air Products extracts the helium from the gas stream and returns the carbon dioxide to Kinder Morgan CO2 for its intended enhanced oil recovery (EOR) use. Kinder Morgan CO2, supplies this carbon dioxide to the Permian Basin in West Texas, where it is used for EOR.

Helium is used in many unique and valued applications including: magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); lifting for high altitude scientific research balloons, blimps and party balloons; fiber optics and semiconductor manufacturing; metallurgy; breathing atmospheres for deep diving or unique blood gas medical mixtures; analytical chemistry; pressurizing and purging pipes, vessels, and other critical equipment; leak detection; and other advanced applications.

Effective March 1, 2016, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will increase product pricing and monthly service charges for merchant customers in North America. The pricing adjustments include increases of:

Up to 20% for liquid argon
Up to 15% for liquid and bulk hydrogen
Up to 10% for liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid and bulk helium, and liquid carbon dioxide

Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on specific situations.

These adjustments are in response to the cost impact associated with the significant slowdown in the steel market, and increasing operational and delivery costs associated with specific regional supply and demand imbalances in order to meet customer needs. Air Products (NYSE: APD) verzeichnet zwei Erfolge im Heliumsektor, die die Marktführerschaft des Unternehmens unterstreichen: Zum einen wird Air Products die RasGas Company Ltd (RasGas) mit der Ausrüstung für eine neue Helium-3-Anlage am Standort Ras Laffan Industrial City, Katar, versorgen. Zum anderen erhält Air Products auch den Zuschlag für die langfristige Heliumversorgung aus der Helium-3-Anlage, die voraussichtlich bis zu 0,4 Bscf (Billion Standard Cubic Feet) flüssiges Helium pro Jahr produzieren wird. Air Products, leverancier van industriële gassen, heeft vandaag bekendgemaakt dat het bedrijf twee nieuwe, grote projecten voor de productie van helium heeft binnengehaald. Air Products zal de installaties leveren voor de nieuwe Helium 3 fabriek van RasGas Company Ltd., die gebouwd wordt op het Barzan-complex in Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar. Daarnaast heeft Air Products het langlopende contract voor de productie en levering van de helium vanaf de nieuwe fabriek gewonnen. Naar verwachting zal de fabriek per jaar zo’n 15 miljoen liter vloeibare helium produceren. Als de productie in de nieuwe fabriek in 2018 van start gaat, wordt Air Products de grootste, commerciële leverancier van helium ter wereld.

Air Products (NYSE: APD) today announced two big helium market wins that demonstrate the company’s industry leadership. Air Products will supply to RasGas Company Ltd (RasGas), the helium licensor package equipment for the new Helium 3 plant to be located at the Barzan facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar. Additionally, Air Products won the award for the long-term helium supply from the Helium 3 plant which is expected to produce up to 0.4 Bsf/annum of liquid helium, and in achieving this, the company will again be the world’s largest commercial supplier of helium when the plant begins production in 2018.

Air Products Holds Grand Opening at Its Doe Canyon Helium Plant

Air Products (NYSE: APD), a global leader in helium production, today held a grand opening at its new Doe Canyon helium production facility in Colorado. The Doe Canyon helium plant is the only one in the world extracting helium from a gas stream composed primarily of carbon dioxide (CO2). The helium from this new facility further diversifies Air Products’ supply chain to ensure a reliable and stable supply of product for its customers.

“Today celebrates an accomplishment that has not been achieved before. We are capturing an important molecule—that being helium—from a naturally occurring stream of carbon dioxide provided by this site’s host Kinder Morgan, who I would like to thank for their cooperation with this venture,” said Seifi Ghasemi, Air Products’ chairman, president and chief executive officer. “In doing so, our company takes another step forward to maintain the leading position we have earned in this industry and to help to ensure Air Products continues to build on the helium market leadership established and enhanced over many decades.”

Much of the helium produced in the United States today comes from the United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) system, however, the BLM system is in decline, and eventually that storage supply will be depleted. At the same time, the world’s demand for helium is likely to continue to grow and is why new sources of helium are needed. The purified helium at the new Colorado facility will be liquefied on-site for subsequent delivery to Air Products’ customers. The plant is expected to produce up to 230 million standard cubic feet of helium per year, replacing more than 15 percent of the current BLM reserve helium supply as that system declines.

“People often talk about ‘thinking outside-the-box’, and that is really the case in this instance. This is not just another liquid helium plant, we’re using cutting edge technology to extract and produce helium that would have otherwise been lost. Bringing the Doe Canyon helium plant on-stream is just one more step in a series of steps that we’ve taken in order to become the most reliable supplier of helium to our customers around the world,” said Corning Painter, Air Products’ executive vice president and general manager of Industrial Gases.

Most of the helium produced around the world is a by-product of natural gas (methane) processing. However, not all natural gas fields contain helium, and in fact very few gas fields have high enough helium concentrations to make it economical for extraction. In this case, the natural gas is composed of primarily CO2, and it contains high enough concentrations of helium to make it economical for extraction.

Air Products’ Colorado facility will use a new technology process to produce pure helium from the CO2 stream. Kinder Morgan, operator of the Doe Canyon Unit, supplies this CO2 to the Permian Basin in West Texas, where the CO2 is used for enhanced oil recovery (EOR). Air Products will extract the helium and return the CO2 to Kinder Morgan for its intended EOR use.

La planta es un centro de envasado de referencia para toda Europa dentro del grupo Air Products
Se han presentado también las nuevas medidas de seguridad de la planta que, con una inversión de 2 millons de euros, la refuerzan ante eventuales emergencias de acuerdo con la importancia que la compañía da a la seguridad

Este mediodía la planta de Sant Celoni de Carburos Metálicos, del grupo Air Products, ha conmemorado su 25 aniversario con un acto que ha contado con la participación del conseller d'Empresa i Ocupació de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Felip Puig, los alcaldes en funciones de Sant Celoni, Joan Castaño, y Gualba, Marc Uriach, y el director general de Carburos Metálicos, Francesco Maione, además de numerosos representantes de las empresas vecinas y directivos de la compañía gasista. El acto ha servido también para presentar las nuevas medidas de seguridad de la planta, en las que Carburos Metálicos ha invertido más de 2 millones de euros.

Desde 1990 la planta de Sant Celoni de Carburos Metálicos se dedica al envasado de cloro y en 1997 amplió su actividad con el envasado y análisis de mezcla de gases especiales y productos especializados, siendo un punto de distribución de referencia de la compañía para toda Europa. Concretamente, Sant Celoni es la única planta europea del grupo Air Products en la que se envasa cloro, producto que se utiliza principalmente en la potabilización del agua de boca, por ejemplo, del área metropolitana de Barcelona. También es la planta del grupo Air Products que envasa en exclusiva para toda Europa el Noxap, un gas medicinal que contiene óxido nítrico y que actúa como vasodilatador pulmonar selectivo cuando se inhala.

Carburos Metálicos y Air Products ocupan en España posiciones de liderazgo en los sectores de actividad propios de la planta de Sant Celoni, tanto en el mercado de los gases especiales como en el del envasado de cloro.

Nuevas medidas de seguridad
Durante el acto de celebración del 25 aniversario de la planta de Sant Celoni, se han presentado las nuevas medidas de seguridad en las que la compañía ha invertido más de 2 millones de euros. Las mejoras están centradas en reforzar la seguridad de la planta a todos los niveles y de manera transversal, consolidando los sistemas de alerta y automatizando el procedimiento en caso de emergencia, en línea con el compromiso con la seguridad de la compañía.

Francesco Maione, director general de Carburos Metálicos, ha destacado que el refuerzo de las medidas de seguridad del centro guarda coherencia con el lema de la compañía: ‘La seguridad es lo primero’. Además, ha señalado que la inversión realizada coincide con los 25 años de la planta y materializa el compromiso de Carburos Metálicos y Air Products con el entorno local a largo plazo, a la vez que permite ofrecer un mejor servicio a sus clientes. Según Maione, "todo ello, sumado al peso que tiene la planta para el grupo Air Products en Europa, consolida Sant Celoni como un centro altamente competitivo”.

En concreto, y en coherencia con la filosofia de Carburos Metálicos, las mejoras implementadas consisten en la instalación de nuevos sistemas de detección de fugas, alarmas o fallos del proceso los cuales han sido automatizados así como una actualización del diseño de las torres de absorción de cloro cuya configuración en serie dificulta, además, una posible fuga.

Todos los sistemas han sido integrados en un DCS (Distributed Control System) que permite que la planta pase automáticamente a un estado de seguridad en caso de incidencias. Se han habilitado también dos salas de confinamiento (en la sala de control de cloro y en la sala de reuniones de oficinas), con una capacidad total para 30 personas, y se ha creado una sala de comunicación en el edificio de oficinas, independiente de los sistemas de planta, con una estación de control y gestión de emergencias sobre la planta.

Estas medidas se suman a las ya existentes y su implementación guarda plena coherencia con la importancia que el grupo Air Products da al hecho de que todas las operaciones se desarrollen con las máximas garantías.

Carburos Metálicos, 25 años en Sant Celoni
Tras 25 años, la planta de Carburos Metálicos en Sant Celoni es un referente industrial en la zona. Para la compañía, Sant Celoni es una de sus plantas de referencia. "Aquí contamos con un equipo humano altamente cualificado y comprometido con el proyecto y también con la buena predisposición que nos han brindado tanto la administración pública como los vecinos de las poblaciones colindantes", ha explicado Maione.

Effective March 15, 2015, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will increase product pricing and monthly service charges for merchant industrial gas customers in North America. The pricing adjustments include increases of:

Up to 20% for liquid argon
Up to 12% for liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen
Up to 10% on monthly service charges

Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on other specific situations.

The price adjustments are in response to increased costs to reliably supply Air Products’ customers’ growing demand for industrial gases. In addition to higher operating costs for both production and delivery of industrial gas products, Air Products has also experienced increased costs for bulk tanks due to higher metal prices.

Football de haut niveau: Air Products se qualifie en ligue 1 et signe son premier contrat pro

Le 16 mars dernier, le groupe Air Products signait un protocole avec un club de football de première division pour permettre à ses joueurs professionnels de tester les effets de la cryothérapie corps entier (CCE) indirecte. Après en avoir constaté les bénéfices, le club a décidé de remplacer la chambre mobile ayant servi aux essais par une chambre fixe d’une surface de 30m2 pour 2/3 joueurs. Elle a donc signé un nouveau contrat le 8 septembre 2014 avec Air Products et son partenaire Kriosystem qui a largement contribué à ce succès en mettant tout en œuvre pour répondre aux spécifications et aux demandes de son premier client français. Les associés n’ont ainsi pas hésité à faire venir en urgence une unité mobile d’Angleterre pour quelques semaines, le temps de démarrer la construction de l’installation définitive. Le préparateur physique de l’équipe a ainsi pu commencer son travail de récupération avec les joueurs dès le 12 septembre.

Validé par de nombreuses études scientifiques, le principe de la cryothérapie est de créer une vasoconstriction cutanée afin de limiter l’œdème et l’irritation des tissus provoqués par l’entraînement.

Concrètement,la chambre de cryothérapie indirecte d’Air Products est équipée d’une unité de refroidissement qui génère un air froid (entre – 60°C et – 160°C). Equipé(s) de la tenue adéquate (chaussons polaires, chaussettes montantes, short, gants, masque et bandeau pour protéger les oreilles) et après un contrôle du pouls et de la tension, le(s) joueur(s) séjourne(nt) quelques secondes dans une antichambre à –60°C puis 3 minutes maximum dans la chambre principale à une température inférieure à –110°C, sans jamais entrer en contact avec l’azote (d’où le nom de « thérapie indirecte » ).

Durant les 6 semaines d’essais menées la saison dernière, le préparateur physique de l’effectif professionnel et un professeur des Universités /Instructor Physical de la FIFA ont pu constater les bienfaits de thérapie. L’équipe s’est d’ailleurs qualifiée en coupe Europa. Il était donc logique de pérenniser l’investissement.

Air Products and MATHESON Helium Production Begins in Wyoming

Air Products (NYSE: APD) and Matheson Tri-Gas, Inc. (MATHESON), a member of the Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation (TNSC) group, today announced that production operations have begun with the filling and shipping of the first two 11,000 gallon helium ISO containers from their jointly-owned liquid helium production plant near Big Piney, Wyoming. The plant is designed to produce 200 million standard cubic feet of helium per year initially, with expectations for future expansion to 400 million standard cubic feet per year.

The Big Piney helium facility purifies and liquefies a helium feedgas stream that is supplied by Denbury Resources’ Riley Ridge gas processing plant. The Denbury plant processes a raw gas stream produced from the LaBarge Field in Wyoming, one of the largest helium-rich gas fields in the United States. The LaBarge Field is believed to contain sufficient helium reserves to support production for decades.

“This plant is beginning production operations at a good time as both suppliers and manufacturing end-users of helium are still recovering from a global helium supply shortage. Big Piney alone won’t solve the supply issue, but it will help to provide additional helium at this critical time. Going forward, the Big Piney plant will further diversify our helium source portfolio in our efforts to reliably serve our customers,” said Walter Nelson, general manager - Worldwide Helium at Air Products.

Air Products Signs Distributor Agreement with TechnoGas in Kuwait

Today Air Products (NYSE: APD) announced it has signed a distributor agreement with the Kuwaiti company TechnoGas.

Air Products has been offering ultrahigh-purity gases (UHP), calibration mixtures, process chemicals and equipment to customers globally for over 40 years. By signing an agreement with TechnoGas, the company now has an important distribution network in Kuwait allowing it to expand its speciality gas and equipment activities in the State.

Through the company’s tonnage business, Air Products has been doing business in the Middle East for more than 50 years, with offices in Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain. A provider of liquefied natural gas (LNG) cryogenic technology to Oman and the rest of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), Air Products has built, owned, and operated several air separation units and hydrogen production plants throughout the Middle East region.

Air Products Middle East was formed in 1990 and is a 100% owned subsidiary of Air Products. It operates a helium and cylinder gas filling and distribution facility, as well as a specialty gases center in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, UAE and distributes its helium and its specialty gases to over 20 countries throughout the GCC and wider Middle Eastern region.

“This distribution agreement provides us with entry to the speciality gas and equipment market in Kuwait by working with a trusted local company in TechnoGas,” commented Simon Little, General Manager, Merchant Gases at Air Products (Middle East) FZE. “Air Products’ business also compliments TechnoGas’ existing portfolio of products perfectly.”

Mr Adnan Al-Rashed commented on the agreement saying: “This Agreement is the result of strenuous efforts and intensive communication and has been carefully evaluated between us and Air Products. The importance of this agreement comes from the regulation and supervision of the distribution of high-quality specialty gases used for calibration purposes with all the required equipment such as control valves along with high-purity industrial gases.

Al-Rashed went on: “There are multiple uses of industrial gases such as in medical laboratories, universities, medical applications, oil and gas, science and agriculture”. Al-Rashed concluded: “This agreement comes during the third Oil and Gas Convention in Kuwait, where we are continuously seeking to achieve such agreements which supplement the industry and the national economy and add new services to the company which is always striving to expand and improve the service for our clients year after year”

Air Products Applauds Approval of Helium Legislation

Air Products (NYSE:APD) today applauded President Barack Obama and members of both the United States Senate and House of Representatives for their work in successfully passing vital legislation needed for the continuation of the critical helium supply from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Federal Helium Reserve. The BLM reserve in Amarillo, Texas currently provides 30 percent of the world’s helium supply.

“While there currently exists a severe helium supply shortage that will unfortunately continue for some time, Congress’ actions have averted a further supply crisis that would have been unprecedented,” said John Van Sloun, general manager Worldwide Helium at Air Products. “It is only appropriate that we recognize Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) of the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee and U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings (R-WA) of the House Natural Resources Committee for developing this pragmatic legislation.” Van Sloun added, “Air Products is especially grateful for the tireless efforts of U.S. Congressman Charlie Dent, who became a recognized leader on the helium issue in the House, and Pennsylvania Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey, both of whom were instrumental in the passing of the bill.”

Air Products, a global leader in helium production, while pleased with the BLM supply continuation, cautioned that the helium shortage still remains. “There will be no increase in the amount of helium molecules being produced by the BLM as a result of this legislation. The legislation maintains the status quo in terms of helium availability. However, we are just pleased that the legislation’s passing prevented a difficult supply situation from getting any worse,” said Walter Nelson, director of Helium Sourcing at Air Products.

The continued supply from the BLM reserve also provides a bridge for new helium projects to be developed and brought onstream. One such project is Air Products’ new, jointly-owned liquid helium production plant near Big Piney, Wyoming, which is scheduled to be onstream later this year. The facility will process natural gas from the Riley Ridge Field, one of the largest helium-rich natural gas fields in the United States. The Riley Ridge field is believed to contain sufficient helium reserves to support production for decades. Air Products also continues to take actions to improve future helium supply reliability for its customers by looking for other helium source opportunities to participate in as a buyer, an investor and an operator.

Additionally, Air Products encourages all users of helium to review their operations for ways to conserve or recycle helium. “We have worked with several customers and will do so with others interested in looking for ways to conserve or reduce the amount of helium used in their operations. In fact, we consistently review our own use for ways to save,” said Van Sloun. In 2011 Air Products was presented an “Innovation for Growth” award from Royal Philips Electronics for its work together with Philips to significantly reduce the amount of helium used at Philips’ Latham, New York manufacturing facility.

Air Products - laboratoire pharmaceutique et l’un des 3 principaux fabricants et distributeurs en France de gaz à usage médical pour les établissements de soins - participe cette année pour la première fois au Congrès de la SFAR - Société Française d’Anesthésie et de Réanimation - qui se tiendra du 18 au 21 septembre prochains à Paris. Air Products Announces North American Price Increase for Liquid and Bulk Industrial Gas Products

Effective October 1, 2013, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will increase product pricing and monthly charges for merchant customers in North America. The pricing adjustments include increases of:

Up to 12% for liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid carbon dioxide.
Up to 20% for liquid argon, liquid and bulk hydrogen, and bulk carbon monoxide.
Liquid and bulk helium pricing adjustments will be determined on a contract by contract basis.

Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on other specific situations.

The revised prices are in response to various factors, including supply and demand imbalances, that are driving up production and delivery costs, and increases in operating expenses such as employee labor and benefits, natural gas and energy, and maintenance. Air Products continues to make significant investments in infrastructure, technologies, and productivity programs aimed at improving the reliability, safety, and cost efficiency of its operations.

Asimismo, a pesar de estar muy igualado, los hombres creen más en los contenidos digitales que las mujeres, con un 24%. El estudio también muestra que a medida que aumenta la edad de los internautas, la confianza de éstos en Internet no varía significativamente. De este modo, mientras un 22% de los mayores de 30 años cree lo que lee en la red, un 21% de los mayores de 50 años deposita su confianza en los contenidos online.

El 78'9% de los españoles considera que la confianza es clave en temas de salud

Un 82’2% de las españolas da una mayor importancia a la confianza, frente al 75’6% de los españoles
El estudio se ha realizado en una muestra de 1.700 personas de toda España

Confianza y salud van fuertemente vinculadas, y con el objetivo de conocer más de cerca las claves que despiertan la confianza entre los españoles cuando se trata de temas de salud, Carburos Médica ha realizado el estudio social ¿En quién confías?. Los primeros resultados presentados destacan que la confianza, entendida como la seguridad que generan en los pacientes los distintos elementos presentes en los centros hospitalarios, es clave en temas de salud para el 78’9% de los españoles.

Entre las 1.700 personas encuestadas, las mujeres son quienes dan una mayor importancia a la confianza, concretamente un 82’2% de las españolas, frente al 75’6% de los españoles. Asimismo, el estudio muestra que a medida que avanza la edad, la confianza en temas de salud adquiere un papel más importante. De este modo, para el 76’7% de los menores de 31 años, la confianza es muy importante, frente al 82’5% de los mayores de 51 años.

A nivel autonómico, los canarios son los españoles que más valoran la confianza en temas de salud, con un 84’3%, frente a los extremeños, ya que sólo un 69’4% le da una mayor relevancia.

Claves de la proyección térmica: beneficios y soluciones de esta tecnología para la industria

Carburos Metálicos y el Centro de Proyección Térmica organizan la 1ª Jornada sobre Aplicaciones de la Proyección Térmica en Ingeniería de superficies
El acto tuvo lugar en la Universidad de Barcelona y contó con la participación de expertos en las distintas materias relacionadas con esta aplicación

Carburos Metálicos (grupo Air Products) y el Centro de Proyección Térmica han organizado la 1ª Jornada sobre Proyección Térmica, celebrada en la Universidad de Barcelona. La iniciativa, dirigida especialmente a ingenieros, químicos, empresarios y técnicos, forma parte de la apuesta de Carburos Metálicos por la colaboración público-privada como herramienta fundamental para avanzar en el campo de la I+D y sus aplicaciones.

Con el objetivo de mostrar la potencialidad de la tecnología basada en la proyección térmica, durante el encuentro de trabajo se presentaron distintos casos reales de soluciones ofrecidas a la industria de ámbitos tan diferentes como el automovilístico, el aeronáutico o el médico, entre otros. En todos ellos, la proyección térmica contribuye a la protección al desgaste y la corrosión, al control del coeficiente de fricción, la conductividad eléctrica y térmica. Durante la jornada se ofreció información detallada sobre la tecnología de proyección térmica desde un punto de vista de fundamentos y operatividad, así como optimización del proceso. La jornada se completó con distintas reuniones en diferentes grupos de trabajo donde se habló de casos prácticos o implementación de esta tecnología en la industria.

El sistema de proyección térmica es una técnica utilizada en la fabricación de componentes que consiste en proyectar pequeñas partículas fundidas, semifundidas, calientes e incluso frías, que se unen sucesivamente a una superficie. El objetivo es proveer de un tratamiento de superficie a las piezas que van a estar sometidas a condiciones extremas de rozamiento, desgaste, calor y/o esfuerzos mecánicos.

Air Products Announces North American Price Increase for Liquid and Bulk Industrial Gas Products

Effective, May 1, 2013, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will increase product pricing and monthly charges for merchant customers in North America. The pricing adjustments include increases of up to 10% for liquid argon, liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid and bulk hydrogen, bulk carbon monoxide, and liquid carbon dioxide. Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on other specific situations.

The revised prices are in response to various supply and demand product imbalances which have led to increased costs in nearly every aspect of producing and delivering industrial gases. Additionally, Air Products has been impacted by higher energy costs from utility companies and higher distribution costs.

Air Products’ CryoEase® Microbulk Solutions Provide Worry-Free Oxygen Supply to North Carolina Specialty Hospital

North Carolina Specialty Hospital’s (NCSH) plant manager is sleeping better at night knowing that Air Products’ (NYSE:APD) CryoEase® microbulk solutions are delivering a reliable, uninterrupted supply of oxygen to his facility. NCSH, located in Durham, N.C., is one of many smaller volume gas users benefitting from the numerous advantages of microbulk supply over traditional cylinder or dewar supply. This supply option has proven so efficient and cost-effective that NCSH has again turned to Air Products to identify and provide the optimum gas supply option for its recently-opened Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center, also located in Durham.

NCSH performs approximately 1100 surgical procedures a month, using liquid oxygen in both its operating and recovery rooms. Prior to switching to microbulk oxygen supply, NCSH received its oxygen in dewars, which required the plant manager to monitor supply levels daily and change-out dewars three times a week. With Air Products’ microbulk solutions, NCSH has eliminated the time and labor associated with dewar handling, as well as the supply interruption that occurs during dewar change-outs. In addition, Air Products has reduced NCSH’s risk of product runout by installing its Telalert® telemetry system to monitor the hospital’s gas consumption so that oxygen can be automatically delivered when inventory nears a predetermined reorder level.

“The changeover from dewars to the microbulk system was seamless; we were never without oxygen,” said Ron Roghelia, plant manager at North Carolina Specialty Hospital. “The people at Air Products really understand my business, and they understand that my time is valuable here. With microbulk supply, I never have to check oxygen supply levels, I never need to handle dewars, and I never need to make a phone call to reorder product.”

Microbulk is a modern concept for smaller volume users where gas is supplied by filling on-site versus the traditional method of swapping full for empty cylinders and dewars. This supply option has eliminated both the significant product loss that NCSH experienced during dewar change-outs and the residual product at the bottom of the dewars that went unused and returned to the supplier. With Air Products’ specially designed tank trucks—which are smaller than traditional bulk tankers and able to access tighter delivery locations—fitted with a special metering system, microbulk customers only pay for gas that is delivered and used.

Air Products’ Indura to Open New Liquid Plant in Southern Chile

Air Products (NYSE:APD) today announced that Indura, its South American joint venture, has opened a new 84-ton-per-day industrial gas plant producing liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon in Puerto Varas, Chile. The new facility, which will include a cylinder filling system, will serve local industry including the burgeoning aquaculture market.

The new plant’s location in Puerto Varas, which is more than 1,000 miles south of Santiago, makes it the world’s southernmost industrial gas plant serving the merchant market. Besides aquaculture, the facility will also supply the metalworking, health and food industries.

“We are proud of the opening of this new facility as we continue to build our business in this exciting growth region,” said Mike Olivares, vice president and general manager of Merchant Gases, Latin America for Air Products.

Indura has annual sales of $478 million/CLP 244 billion. Its integrated gas and retail business includes liquid bulk, small on-sites and packaged gases. In July, Air Products purchased a majority stake in Indura. Air Products already has existing interests in Latin America, through its wholly-owned businesses in Brazil, Argentina and its joint venture, Grupo Infra, headquartered in Mexico.

Air Products annonce son projet de cession au Groupe Linde de ses activites de soins medicaux a domicile (Homecare) en Europe Continentale

Air Products (NYSE : APD) a annoncé la conclusion d’accords avec le groupe Linde portant sur le rachat de ses activités de soins médicaux à domicile (Homecare) en Europe continentale. Il s’agit pour Linde d'acquérir les activités Homecare de l'entreprise en Belgique, en Allemagne, au Portugal et en Espagne ainsi qu’en France. Les transactions sont assujetties aux procédures d'approbation réglementaire et de consultation des employés.

Le prix d'achat total des activités de soins médicaux à domicile (Homecare) d'Air Products en Europe continentale sera de 590 MM €, sous réserve des conditions convenues lors de la signature du contrat.

Les termes de ces accords couvrent la vente des services aux patients d’Air Products en oxygénothérapie, traitement de l’apnée du sommeil et thérapie par perfusion en Europe continentale. Ces activités concernent près de 260 000 patients au total, répartis dans les cinq pays cités précédemment et ont représenté un CA de 210 MM d’euros en 2011.

Air Products anuncia sus planes de venta de la división de terapias domiciliarias en Europa Continental a Linde

La compañía Air Products ha anunciado hoy el establecimiento de un acuerdo con Linde (The Linde Group) para la compra de su negocio de terapias domiciliarias en Bélgica, Francia, Alemania, España y Portugal. Dicha transacción está sujeta, a día de hoy, a los requisitos de aprobación legislativa, así como a la consulta de los empleados.

El precio total de la compra de la división de atención domiciliaria de Air Products asciende a 590 millones de euros, sujeto a los términos acordados tras la finalización de la transacción.

Los acuerdos cubren tanto la venta de los servicios de terapias domiciliarias de Air Products (oxigenoterapia, terapia del sueño, aerosolterapia, etc.), como la de otros servicios de la compañía en los cinco países antes mencionados, que atienden a más de 260.000 pacientes.

Según apunta John McGlade, presidente y director general de Air Products, “durante muchos años, nuestro equipo europeo de terapias domiciliarias ha dirigido con éxito esta división y, además, ha conseguido que alcance posiciones de liderazgo. Pero la tendencia de este mercado hacia los concentradores y el rápido incremento en Europa de terapias respiratorias que no precisan gases, hace que creamos que este negocio tiene cada vez menos sinergias con nuestro negocio principal, centrado en los gases”. “Nuestra estrategia actual de crecimiento se basa en nuevas oportunidades en el campo de la energía, medio ambiente y mercados emergentes en los que vemos importantes oportunidades de desarrollo”.

A Air Products (NYSE: APD) anunciou hoje que chegou a acordo com o grupo Linde acerca da venda do negócio de Cuidados Domiciliários na Bélgica, França, Alemanha, Portugal e Espanha. As transações estão sujeitas a requisitos de aprovação legal e de consulta dos funcionários.

O preço total da aquisição do negócio de Cuidados Domiciliários na Europa Continental da Air Products será de € 590 MM (sujeito aos termos acordados aquando da sua conclusão).

O acordo inclui a venda dos serviços para pacientes de terapia com oxigénio, terapia do sono e terapia de infusão da Air Products na Europa Continental. Este negócio abrange cerca de 260 mil pacientes, num total de cinco países, onde obteve uma receita aproximada de € 210 MM no ano passado.

Air Products (NYSE:APD) kondigt vandaag aan dat het met de Linde Group een overeenkomst heeft bereikt om haar Homecare activiteiten in België, Duitsland, Frankrijk, Portugal en Spanje aan deze groep te verkopen. De transacties moeten goedgekeurd worden door de regelgevende instanties en vereisen ook nog het nodige werknemersoverleg.

De totale verkoopprijs van de Homecare activiteiten van Air Products op het Europese vasteland bedraagt €590 miljoen. Die som kan schommelen naargelang de voorwaarden bij de afronding.

De overeenkomsten hebben betrekking op de verkoop van Air Products’ zuurstoftherapie, slaaptherapie en infuustherapie voor medische thuishulp in continentaal Europa. Deze activiteit bedient een 260.000 patiënten verspreid over de vijf landen en was goed voor een omzet van ongeveer €210 miljoen in 2011.

Der US-amerikanische Industriegasehersteller Air Products hat sich mit der Linde Group auf den Verkauf des Homecare-Geschäfts in Kontinentaleuropa geeinigt. Bestandteil der Einigung ist der Verkauf des Homecare-Geschäfts in Belgien, Frankreich, Deutschland, Portugal und Spanien an Linde. Die Transaktionen unterliegen gesetzlichen Genehmigungen und Anforderungen an Mitarbeitergespräche.

Der Kaufpreis für das Homecare-Geschäft von Air Products in Kontinentaleuropa beträgt 590 Mio. Euro, je nach vereinbarten Bedingungen bei Geschäftsabschluss.

Die Einigung umfasst den Verkauf von Services für die patientenorientierte Sauerstoff-, Schlaf- und Infusionstherapie in Kontinentaleuropa. Der Geschäftsbereich versorgt in den fünf genannten Ländern einen Patientenbestand von ca. 260.000 Patienten und erzielte im Jahr 2011 einen Umsatz von rund 210 Mio. Euro.

Air Products (NYSE:APD) today announced it has reached agreements for The Linde Group to purchase its Homecare business in Belgium, Germany, France, Portugal and Spain. The transactions are subject to regulatory approval and employee consultation requirements.

The total purchase price for Air Products’ Continental Europe Homecare business will be €590 MM, subject to terms agreed upon completion.

The agreements cover the sale of Air Products’ patient-based oxygen-therapy, sleep-therapy and infusion-therapy services in Continental Europe. This business serves a total patient base around 260,000 in all five countries and had revenue of approximately €210 MM last year.

Air Products Announces North America Price Increase for Liquid and Bulk Helium Gases

Effective January 1, 2012, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will be implementing a price increase for liquid and bulk helium gases in North America. Specific adjustments are being communicated directly to customers.

The price increase is the result of several factors. The global helium market continues to experience severe shortages in the supply needed to meet the world’s growing demand. The industry-wide shortage has made it increasingly difficult to maintain Air Products’ global system for meeting customer requirements, and unfortunately this situation is expected to continue well into the future. Air Products has incurred increased costs to operate in this manner, as its worldwide helium team is managing this difficult situation on a daily basis in order to maintain uninterruptible supply to customers.

A l'occasion de la Journée Mondiale du Diabète1 et du prochain Congrès du Sommeil2, Air Products Healthcare met à disposition du grand public, via les professionnels de santé, un nouveau titre dans la collection des Carnets du Sommeil de l'INSV (Institut National du Sommeil et de la Vigilance) : « Sommeil & Diabète ». Ce livret de 16 pages explique dans un langage simple la pathologie, ses symptômes, ses liens avec le sommeil et les solutions existantes, le tout complété par des conseils pratiques pour améliorer la qualité de vie du patient. BIG Supports O2 Medical Grade to Help Patients in Flood Areas

Management of Bangkok Industrial Gas Co., Ltd. or BIG led by Senior Executive Director Chaiwat Niyomkarn (5th from right), recently teamed up to Ayudhya province to present 70 cylinders of oxygen medical grade to the Center of Flood Relief in Ayudhya to help patients get stuck there. The support will continue until the flood situation is eased.

This inundated is the worst of its kind as there are many victims waiting for helps. Stocks of oxygen are critical as the delivery was very difficult and some gas operations are closed. BIG has contacted the Public Health Ministry to offer the help.

The first delivery has departed to Ayudhya in the morning of 17 October 2011 together with dried foods, rice, drinking water, and other essential items have been donated from BIG employees.

Air Products Secures 25% Stake in Gases Businesses of Abdullah Hashim Group

Air Products (NYSE: APD) today announced it has agreed to acquire a 25 percent stake in the gases and equipment businesses of Abdullah Hashim Industrial Gases & Equipment Co. Ltd. (AHG), a company of the privately-owned Abdullah Hashim Group, based in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and customary local closing conditions. Financial terms are not being disclosed.

AHG is the largest private industrial gases company in Saudi Arabia. It is comprised of three businesses, including industrial gases, equipment, and consumables and refrigerants. AHG has three main production locations in Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh, plus distribution centers at key locations across The Kingdom. AHG also has a purchase agreement with National Industrial Gases Company (NIGC) at Jubail and Yanbu for liquid products.

“AHG is a long-established, respected and financially strong business, run by an experienced leadership team,” said Howard Castle-Smith, Air Products’ vice president and general manager, Tonnage Gases, Europe and Middle East. “Merchant gases growth in The Kingdom is high, and margins are strong, making it an attractive investment. It’s also a significant new platform from which to pursue tonnage gases opportunities in The Middle East.”

Air Products and AHG have a long-standing relationship and currently operate two joint ventures. One is an on-site facility supplying oxygen and nitrogen for Shadeed Iron & Steel’s production plant in the Sohar Industrial Port of Oman. The other plant supplies nitrogen and hydrogen to Emirates Float Glass in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.

Air Products Announces North American Price Increase for Liquid and Bulk Industrial Gas Products

Effective, October 1, 2011, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will increase product pricing and monthly service charges for merchant customers in North America. The pricing adjustments include increases of:

– 5 to 10% for liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid argon, liquid and bulk hydrogen; and;

– 3 to 5% for monthly service charges.

Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on other specific situations.

The revised prices will offset higher operating costs and increased input costs. Air Products is taking aggressive actions internally to mitigate rising costs by reinvesting to improve efficiencies and maintain reliable supply.

Air Products Announces North America Price Increase for Liquid and Bulk Helium Gases

Effective September 1, 2011, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will be implementing a price increase of 15 percent for liquid and bulk helium gases in North America.

The pricing adjustment is the result of several factors including the continued strong demand over the past year for helium and significant reductions in supply. The helium market has been tight across the globe with product allocations implemented by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and with many other global helium sources producing below capacity. Additionally, new helium sources located primarily outside of the U.S. are extremely expensive, wholesale prices for crude and processed liquid helium have increased, and costs have escalated for power and diesel.

Air Products’ worldwide helium team is managing this difficult situation on a daily basis so that it can continue to bring uninterruptible supply to customers. It is expected that demand will exceed supply for the next two to three years, thus creating ongoing shortages in the market.

Air Products Wins Royal Philips Electronics Supplier Award

Air Products (NYSE: APD), the world’s largest producer and supplier of liquid and gaseous helium, announced today it won the “Innovation for Growth 2010” award in Royal Philips Electronics Supplier Awards program. Air Products received the award for its work together with Philips to significantly reduce the amount of helium used at Philips’ Latham, New York manufacturing facility. The award was presented by Philips at a recent event held in Andover, Massachusetts.

“Customer service is essential in today’s globally competitive market and we are very proud to have our dedicated efforts in this essential area recognized by Philips,” said John Van Sloun, general manager, Worldwide Helium at Air Products. “We worked closely with Philips in restructuring a segment of its operations to reduce their overall usage of helium. The result benefits Philips from an operations and cost standpoint, and we retain a satisfied customer.” Van Sloun added that the reduced sales of helium to Philips will be used to grow Air Products' helium business beyond magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and to supply the increasing demand for the product in several other product markets.

At Latham, Air Products and Philips are making further investments into the MRI manufacturing process by constructing new equipment that will enhance the helium recovery and recycle processes within the factory. The project is scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2012, and once operational the new equipment will significantly reduce the amount of helium purchased by Philips. Air Products had previously worked with Philips at its facility in Best, Holland to install a similar system.

In selecting the winner, Philips noted that its judges were convinced that Air Products deserved the Innovation Award. Philips added that in a tough market situation with strong upward helium price pressure, Air Products worked together with Philips to mitigate this price pressure by restructuring the Latham Factory operations and investing in new equipment, resulting in the significant reduction in helium consumption.

Philips uses liquid helium at Latham to cool down the magnets they manufacture for the MRI industry and to test them prior to final placement at medical imaging facilities. A substantial amount of helium is used in the manufacturing and testing of these MRI magnets, which must be cooled to -452 degrees Fahrenheit.

Air Products assists the global MRI industry with vital service by keeping the superconducting magnets at cryogenic temperatures to provide the highest quality medical imaging. An MRI system with a superconducting magnet consists of many wound coils of wire through which a current of electricity is passed to create a magnetic field. This requires a significant amount of energy and is achieved through superconductivity, or reducing the resistance in the wires to almost zero by continually bathing the wire coils in liquid helium.

Helium is used in many unique and valued applications beyond MRI including: lifting for high altitude scientific research balloons, blimps and party balloons; fiber optics and semi-conductor manufacturing; metallurgy; breathing atmospheres for deep diving or unique blood gas medical mixtures; analytical chemistry; pressurizing and purging pipes, vessels, and other critical equipment; leak detection; and other advanced applications.

Air Products Teams Up with Marie Curie in Data Protection Expertise Exchange

Industrial gas and chemicals manufacturer Air Products and end of life care charity Marie Curie Cancer Care have joined forces to share skills and expertise in the area of data privacy and protection.

The two organisations, which both handle personal data, identified an opportunity to share experience and knowledge about data privacy, based on parallels in their respective fields of work. Marie Curie Cancer Care provided care to more than 31,000 terminally ill patients at home or in its nine hospices last year, and Air Products' Healthcare division provides home oxygen to over 325,000 patients throughout Europe.

On 6 April 2010, the Government's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) was handed extended powers to enhance the enforcement of the UK Data Protection Act. For many organisations these moves demonstrate the increasing importance in all sectors around handling personal and sensitive data.

The agreement between the two organisations saw Air Products share with Marie Curie its experience of developing and integrating a data protection programme which included lessons learned from both technical and change management perspectives. Marie Curie will use the expertise to inform the design of a new employee training and awareness programme to be launched this spring.

Air Products (NYSE: APD) announced today the signing of a long-term contract with Genesis Medical Imaging, Inc., one of the United States’ largest independent MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) service providers based in Huntley, Illinois. Under the agreement, Air Products will supply its KeepCOLD® Cryogenic Services product offering for approximately 150 magnets currently installed by Genesis for MRI scans at medical service providers across the country.

Air Products to Site New ASU and Modernize Middletown, Ohio Operations

Air Products (NYSE: APD) today announced it will build, own, and operate a new air separation unit (ASU), a new hydrogen production facility and will make additional investment in an existing ASU and liquefier which has been producing industrial gases in Middletown, Ohio. The new facilities, planned to be on-stream in the fourth quarter of 2012, will provide additional capacity to meet customer demand for industrial gases and merchant liquid products in the region.

“Air Products has supplied customers in Middletown and the surrounding region with on-site and merchant gases since the 1960s. This new investment shows commitment to our customers in the Midwest market, it will expand our capability to serve the area, and it provides significant modernization of our operations there,” said Wilbur Mok, vice president–Tonnage Gases North America for Air Products. Mok noted that the new facilities will replace some smaller existing operations at this location to meet the increased demand for both on-site and merchant industrial gas products.

The new ASU will have production capacity of over 700 tons per day of combined pipeline and merchant oxygen output, and total argon capacity for the site will increase. Air Products will also generate hydrogen at Middletown to meet customer requirements with its PRISM® Hydrogen Generator steam methane reformer (SMR) producing over one million cubic feet per day of hydrogen. Air Products’ on-site hydrogen product offerings were enhanced by the 2008 acquisition of this novel and patented SMR technology with flexibility to meet the varied hydrogen capacity requirements of a customer.

Más de trece millones de personas fuman en nuestro país, y según los datos disponibles, son muchas las que desean dejarlo aunque reconocen que es proceso es complicado. Con el objetivo de ayudar a ganar la batalla contra el tabaco y bajo el lema "Al lado de los pacientes", Carburos Médica ha editado la guía "¿Vivir sin fumar? Podemos conseguirlo", una guía de educación sanitaria que ofrece una serie de consejos y recomendaciones para dejar el hábito tabáquico y, por tanto, mejorar así el estado físico y la calidad de vida.

Ser realista, estar motivado y saber solicitar ayuda sanitaria son las principales herramientas para dejar de fumar. La guía editada por Carburos Médica propone pautas a seguir antes de decidir el día concreto de dejar el hábito, durante ese mismo día, así como en los posteriores. Así antes de la fecha señalada, es importante elaborar una lista de motivos por los que hemos decidido dejar de fumar, avisar a las personas del entorno y, por supuesto, consultar con los profesionales sanitarios la decisión tomada para que nos orienten.

Dolencias de los Fumadores

Más de 40 componentes del humo del tabaco son cancerígenos. El tabaquismo es la causa reconocida de varios tipos de cáncer y su consumo está claramente asociado con el desarrollo de numerosas enfermedades, no solamente relacionadas con el aparato respiratorio como el cáncer de pulmón, la EPOC, las infecciones respiratorias, etc., sino que también es causa de patologías que afectan a otros órganos como pueden ser las enfermedades cardiovasculares (infarto agudo de miocardio, trombosis y hemorragias cerebrales), enfermedades digestivas (úlcera péptica), enfermedades ginecológicas (impotencia, esterilidad), enfermedades psiquiátricas, enfermedades periodontales, etc.

Si veinte minutos después del último cigarrillo mejoran la circulación periférica, la presión arterial y la frecuencia cardíaca, 24 horas más tarde el riesgo de muerte súbita disminuye y se recuperan los sentidos del olfato y del gusto. Durante los tres primeros meses de deshabituación disminuye la tos, aumenta la capacidad física y respiratoria y mejora la circulación. Tras un año sin fumar, el riesgo de infarto se reduce al 50%, mientras que a partir de los cinco años la tasa media de muerte por cáncer de pulmón se reduce de 137 a 72 por cada 100.000 personas.
