Effective March 1, 2016, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will increase product pricing and monthly service charges for merchant customers in North America. The pricing adjustments include increases of:

Up to 20% for liquid argon
Up to 15% for liquid and bulk hydrogen
Up to 10% for liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid and bulk helium, and liquid carbon dioxide

Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on specific situations.

These adjustments are in response to the cost impact associated with the significant slowdown in the steel market, and increasing operational and delivery costs associated with specific regional supply and demand imbalances in order to meet customer needs. In addition to covering increases in operating expenses, Air Products continues to make significant investments aimed at improving the reliability, security, safety, and the efficiency of its operations.

Air Products to Highlight Benefits of Oxy-fuel Combustion Technology and Introduce Latest Burners at Conference on Glass Problems

Air Products (NYSE:APD) will highlight the benefits of oxy-fuel combustion technology for glass manufacturing and introduce the company’s latest Cleanfire® burners at the 76th Conference on Glass Problems in Columbus, Ohio, from November 2-3.

The Cleanfire HRe™ burner, Air Products’ latest burner, is the first smart burner for the glass industry. Designed using the same combustion technology as the industry-leading Cleanfire HRi™ burner, the Cleanfire HRe burner includes sensors that monitor key burner conditions. The data provided by the Cleanfire HRe burner enables glass manufacturers to optimize burner performance in their furnace, as well as monitor for any conditions that may require operator attention.

Air Products Signs Second Deal to Supply Integrated Oxy-fuel Solution to Techpack Solutions in Korea

Air Products (NYSE: APD), a leader in oxy-fuel combustion technology and integrated solutions to the global glass industry, today announced it has been selected by Techpack Solutions in Korea to supply its integrated oxy-fuel solution. It is Air Products’ second project to support this leading Korean container glass maker to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency and productivity.

The integrated solution encompasses Air Products’ oxy-fuel combustion system, including Cleanfire® HRi™ oxy-fuel burners and an automatic flow control skid. The company will also install a PRISM® vacuum swing adsorption (VSA) oxygen generator to supply reliable and economical on-site oxygen used to power the oxy-fuel burners for melting glass.

Air Products (NYSE:APD) continues to meet the growing hydrogen demand of Global Tungsten & Powders Corp. (GTP) with the first installation of its new PRISM® PHG830 hydrogen generator. The new technology is now onstream at GTP’s manufacturing facility in Towanda, Pa., where the two companies held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to celebrate the successful completion of the project. The newly expanded range of Air Products’ PRISM® technology demonstrates the flexibility of this highly efficient and economical supply option for the onsite generation of hydrogen requirements up to 5,000 nm3/hr.

Además, el acto ha contado también con la presencia de representantes de Vidrieras Canarias y numerosos clientes de Carburos Metálicos en la zona, así como el equipo de ingenieros expertos que han llevado a cabo el proyecto. Todos ellos han coincidido en señalar la singularidad, la innovación y la apuesta que representa la iniciativa de Carburos Metálicos en Telde y en Canarias.

La puesta en marcha de estas nuevas instalaciones de captura de CO2 materializa una apuesta de futuro en Canarias por parte de Carburos Metálicos, al tratarse de un proyecto innovador que permite reducir la cantidad de CO2 emitido a la atmósfera a la vez que aporta una mejora de la eficiencia industrial de las dos empresas involucradas (Carburos Metálicos y Vidrieras Canarias), permitiendo también un aumento de la capacidad de producción. Este proceso conllevará también un mejor servicio a los clientes de la compañía gasista en las Islas Canarias, optimizando la operatividad de Carburos Metálicos y permitiendo alcanzar sinergias con sus empresas colaboradoras.

El respeto al medio ambiente no va reñido con la mejora de la productividad industrial
El proyecto de Telde se caracteriza por capturar el CO2 sobrante emitido por la chimenea de la planta vecina de Vidrieras Canarias para su posterior tratamiento y utilización industrial, principalmente en el ámbito alimentario.

Mediante esta innovación la planta dejará de quemar por completo fuel oil (método utilizado anteriormente para obtener CO2) para capturar ahora CO2 procedente de la planta vidriera, tratarlo adecuadamente y utilizarlo posteriormente, principalmente en el campo alimentario. En este sentido, el proyecto, además de ser ecológico, supone un aumento de la productividad tanto de la planta de Vidrieras Canarias como de Carburos Metálicos, lo que evidencia que el cuidado del medio ambiente no resulta incompatible con maximizar la productividad industrial.

Las instalaciones de captura de CO2 de Carburos Metálicos en Telde están operativas desde el pasado mes de julio y, tras un año entero de trabajo para su desarrollo, ha contado con una inversión de 6 millones de euros por parte de la compañía gasista.

En palabras del presidente de Gases Industriales de Air Products para la región de EMEA, Ivo Bols, durante el acto de inauguración de este mediodía, “Las nuevas instalaciones de captura de CO2 que inauguramos hoy representanun hito importante para nosotros como innovación aplicada fruto del conocimiento de nuestros equipos profesionales. Creemos que también es importante para Canarias por la proyección de futuro que conlleva la materialización del mismo”. Además, Bols ha añadido: “por sus características, se trata de una solución innovadora única en el mundo que representa una importante mejora en el impacto al medio ambiente, a la vez que logra hacer que nuestra planta y el servicio que ofrecemos a nuestros clientes sea más eficiente”.

En su intervención durante la inauguración, el presidente del Gobierno de Canarias, Paulino Rivero, ha destacado que “Hoy nos encontramos ante una empresa ejemplar ya que su apuesta innovadora encaja perfectamente con el modelo sostenible y el objetivo estratégico de Canarias. Carburos Metálicos innova, apuesta por una industria limpia y genera empleo de calidad con este proyecto además de mostrar un gran respeto por nuestro entorno geográfico. Es posible innovar en un ambiente sostenible y por ello este proyecto cuenta con todo nuestro apoyo institucional y social."

¿Para qué sirve el CO2?
El CO2 es un gas inodoro, incoloro, no tóxico ni inflamable que se encuentra de forma abundante en la naturaleza. Sus propiedades físicas y químicas hacen que se utilice actualmente en multitud de procesos industriales y que se pueda encontrar en muchos de los productos que utilizamos y consumimos a diario, como bebidas carbonatadas o alimentos envasados en atmósferas protectoras. Asimismo, también es el centro de numerosos proyectos de investigación que buscan nuevos usos sostenibles de este gas como su aplicación en el tratamiento de aguas residuales, en procesos biológicos como el crecimiento de microalgas, claves en la generación de energía renovable, o su uso en procesos químicos como la creación de fotosíntesis artificial, entre otros.

50 años en Canarias, proyecto sostenible y proyección de futuro
La planta de Carburos Metálicos ubicada en Telde, en la isla de Gran Canaria, es actualmente la única planta en funcionamiento de obtención de CO2 en Canarias. Con origen industrial en Gran Canaria en 1963, Carburos Metálicos suministra CO2 desde sus actuales instalaciones en Telde a empresas vinculadas con la producción de bebidas carbonatadas, aguas minerales y suministro a plantas de ósmosis.

Effective October 1, 2014, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will increase product pricing and monthly service charges for merchant customers in North America. The pricing adjustments include increases of:

Up to 15% for liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid and bulk hydrogen, helium and bulk carbon monoxide
Up to 20% for liquid carbon dioxide
Up to 25% for liquid argon

Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on other specific situations.

The price adjustments are in response to several factors including supply and demand imbalances which drive-up production and product distribution costs, increases in operating expenses for natural gas and electrical power, plant maintenance, and employee labor and benefits. V minulých týždňoch bola v sklárňach AGC Glass Europe v Tepliciach uvedená do prevádzky nová vysokokapacitná vzduchová separačná jednotka (ASU). Najväčšiemu svetovému výrobcovi plochého skla ju dodala spoločnosť Air Products. Najmodernejšia kryogénna jednotka PRISM® ON300 vyrábajúca čistý kyslík a dusík predstavuje dôležitú časť modernizovanej výrobnej linky AGC na ploché sklo. V Európe je to po prvý raz, kedy je výrobná linka na ploché sklo vybavená samostatnou vzduchovou separačnou jednotkou.

Už pred takmer dvadsiatimi rokmi Air Products spolu s AGC Glass Europe uzavreli dlhodobú zmluvu o dodávkach technických plynov. Inštalácia novej technológie tak predstavuje prehĺbenie spolupráce medzi oboma spoločnosťami.

Air Products Technology Supplies Industrial Gases for AGC Glass Factory in Czech Republic

Air Products (NYSE: APD) has recently installed an air separation unit (ASU) for AGC Glass Europe, the world’s largest producer of flat glass. The state-of-the-art cryogenic PRISM® ON300 plant, now successfully operating at AGC’s Teplice factory in the Czech Republic, produces pure oxygen and nitrogen and represents a significant part of AGC’s rebuilt float glass production line. This is the first time in Europe that the float glass production line has been equipped with a stand-alone ASU.

The delivery of this technology is the result of a long-term gas supply contract between Air Products and AGC Glass Europe. This contract further strengthens the relationship between companies, which began almost 20 years ago in the Czech Republic.

V minulých dnech byla ve sklárnách AGC Glass Europe v Teplicích uvedena do provozu nová vysokokapacitní vzduchová separační jednotka (ASU). Největšímu světovému výrobci plochého skla ji dodala společnost Air Products. Nejmodernější kryogenická jednotka PRISM® ON300 vyrábějící čistý kyslík a dusík představuje důležitou část modernizované výrobní linky AGC na ploché sklo. Je to v Evropě úplně poprvé, kdy je výrobní linka na ploché sklo vybavena samostatnou vzduchovou separační jednotkou.

Air Products Technology Supplies Industrial Gases for AGC Glass Factory in Czech Republic

Air Products (NYSE: APD) has recently installed an air separation unit (ASU) for AGC Glass Europe, the world’s largest producer of flat glass. The state-of-the-art cryogenic PRISM® ON300 plant, now successfully operating at AGC’s Teplice factory in the Czech Republic, produces pure oxygen and nitrogen and represents a significant part of AGC’s rebuilt float glass production line. This is the first time in Europe that the float glass production line has been equipped with a stand-alone ASU.

The delivery of this technology is the result of a long-term gas supply contract between Air Products and AGC Glass Europe. This contract further strengthens the relationship between companies, which began almost 20 years ago in the Czech Republic.

La Technologie d’Air Products au Service d’AGC Flat Glass à Teplice

Air Products vient d’installer et de mettre en service une Unité de Séparation de l’Air (ASU) à l’usine d’AGC Glass Europe- le plus important producteur de verre plat du monde- située à Teplice (Rep. Tchèque). L’installation cryogénique PRISM®ON300 dernière génération d’Air Products y produit désormais de l’oxygène et de l’azote pur. Elle constitue l’un des gros investissements de la nouvelle ligne de production de verre flotté d’AGC. C’est la première fois en Europe qu’une ligne de verre flotté est ainsi équipée d’une ASU dédiée.

Cette mise en service est la concrétisation d’un contrat de fourniture de gaz sur le long terme liant Air Products et AGC Glass Europe. Ce nouvel accord vient renforcer l’étroite relation qui unit les deux groupes depuis près de 20 ans en République Tchèque.

Air Products Implements First-Ever Integrated Oxy-fuel Combustion System for Water Glass Producer in Asia

Air Products (NYSE:APD) recently implemented its integrated oxy-fuel combustion system for Oriental Silicas Corporation (OSC) in Taiwan, the first water glass producer in Asia to adopt this innovative combustion technology. The system helps OSC improve product quality, reduce emissions, and increase productivity in its water glass (sodium silicate) lumps production process.

The integrated oxy-fuel combustion system includes the supply of Cleanfire® HRiTM oxy-fuel burners, flow control skid and the recently started up 2500Nm3/hour PRISM® vacuum swing adsorption (VSA) oxygen generator. The PRISM VSA oxygen generator provides reliable oxygen using a leading-edge technology which maximizes efficiency and significantly reduces energy requirements, making it an economical oxygen source. Air Products also provides oxy-fuel combustion system commissioning and related on-site consulting services to OSC.

OSC manufactures and sells precipitated silica (white carbon) to a wide range of industries including tires, footwear, silicone rubber, dentifrice, food additives, and battery separators. Air Products Announces North American Price Increase for Liquid and Bulk Industrial Gas Products

Effective October 1, 2013, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will increase product pricing and monthly charges for merchant customers in North America. The pricing adjustments include increases of:

Up to 12% for liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid carbon dioxide.
Up to 20% for liquid argon, liquid and bulk hydrogen, and bulk carbon monoxide.
Liquid and bulk helium pricing adjustments will be determined on a contract by contract basis.

Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on other specific situations.

The revised prices are in response to various factors, including supply and demand imbalances, that are driving up production and delivery costs, and increases in operating expenses such as employee labor and benefits, natural gas and energy, and maintenance. Air Products continues to make significant investments in infrastructure, technologies, and productivity programs aimed at improving the reliability, safety, and cost efficiency of its operations.

Carburos Metálicos presenta sus nuevas mezclas multicomponentes durante el V Congreso Español de Metrología organizado por el CEM

Carburos Metálicos (Grupo Air Products), líder en el sector de gases industriales, ha presentado una nueva propuesta de mezclas de calibración de gases multicomponentes NO/SO2/CO/CO2 en N2 . Estas mezclas aportan soluciones a los problemas de precisión y trazabilidad que existían hasta ahora en este tipo de productos.

El estudio presentado por Carburos Metálicos se basa en una investigación que tenía como objetivo ofrecer mezclas que permitieran calibrar analizadores de control de emisiones minimizando los errores. Es crucial que la calibración de los instrumentos se lleve a cabo con las mezclas más adecuadas y precisas, con máxima garantía de trazabilidad, ya que esto permitirá asegurar que los resultados obtenidos son totalmente fiables. Este estudio ha permitido, entre otras cosas, cuantificar las interferencias de componentes presentes en los gases de emisión de chimeneas, mejorando su determinación y aportando una solución a la medida de los contaminantes, por ejemplo del efecto interferente de la presencia de CO2 en analizadores NO/NOx por quimioluminiscencia, de la interferencia del CO2 en analizadores NDIR de CO y de la interferencia del NO2 en analizadores UV de SO2.

El laboratorio cuantificó las interferencias y determinó la incertidumbre en la cuantificación de éstas. La verificación de la composición de diversos materiales de referencia primarios permitió comprobar la exactitud del modelo matemático y la incertidumbre de las correcciones efectuadas. La utilización de mezclas multicomponentes permite a los usuarios reducir los errores de análisis, calibrando sus equipos de control de las emisiones con las mezclas más apropiadas y con trazabilidad a materiales de referencia.

El proceso de calibración de analizadores de gases es fundamental en el control, de emisiones de actividades como la fabricación de envases de vidrio, la fabricación de cemento, la producción de energía eléctrica o el refino de petróleo, y los productos de Carburos Metálicos ofrecen a este sector las máximas garantías de calidad y fiabilidad.

Air Products Announces North American Price Increase for Liquid and Bulk Industrial Gas Products

Effective, May 1, 2013, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will increase product pricing and monthly charges for merchant customers in North America. The pricing adjustments include increases of up to 10% for liquid argon, liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid and bulk hydrogen, bulk carbon monoxide, and liquid carbon dioxide. Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on other specific situations.

The revised prices are in response to various supply and demand product imbalances which have led to increased costs in nearly every aspect of producing and delivering industrial gases. Air Products (NYSE:APD) has developed its first public mobile app, which converts weight and volume measures for common industrial gases and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The Air Products Gas Converter is available for free download from global Apple® iTunes® Stores for use on iPhone®, iPad®, and iPod® touch devices. The new app enables users to quickly convert weight and volume measures for industrial gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, argon, hydrogen, helium, and carbon dioxide, as well as LNG/methane.

“Air Products developed the new app as a value-added tool for anyone who frequently uses units of measure that differ from those used by the industrial gas industry, giving them the ability to convert from one unit of measure to another, especially weights and volumes,” said Steve Ruoff, Metals Processing industry manager at Air Products. “We wanted a convenient tool that takes advantage of the digital technology everyone is using today and can be built upon in the future.”

When converting between liquid and gaseous units, the Gas Converter accounts for the unique properties of each industrial gas, particularly molecular weight and density. For LNG, the tool converts flow rates—including Diesel Gallon Equivalents—and allows the user to specify values for a number of variables.

In the past, Air Products has provided printed weight/volume conversion charts on business cards and currently provides interactive conversion tools on the company’s website. With the addition of the Gas Converter mobile app, users can quickly and easily access the tool anytime, anywhere.

Effective, October 1, 2012, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will increase product pricing and monthly service charges for merchant customers in North America. The pricing adjustments include increases of:

Up to 10% for liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid and bulk hydrogen and liquid carbon dioxide
Up to 20% for liquid argon and bulk carbon monoxide

Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on other specific situations.

The global helium supply shortfall has caused us to address each customer price change on an individual basis.

The revised prices will offset higher operating costs and increased input costs. Air Products is taking aggressive actions internally to mitigate rising costs by reinvesting to improve efficiencies and maintain reliable supply.

Carburos Metálicos, del Grupo Air Products, ha llegado a un importante acuerdo con CEMEX, líder mundial en la industria de materiales de construcción, para implantar su sistema Prism® de generadores de oxígeno in situ y oxicombustión en cinco de sus plantas cementeras en España. La combinación de estas tecnologías innovadoras y altamente eficientes generará un ahorro considerable en todas las instalaciones, a la vez que reducirá el consumo de energía y las emisiones de CO2.

La tecnología de oxicombustión se basa en la inyección de oxígeno directamente en los quemadores de los hornos para lograr un mayor rendimiento, acelerar la combustión y conseguir un aumento potencial de hasta un 80% en el uso de combustibles alternativos, con la consiguiente reducción del consumo de combustible fósil y, por ende, disminuyendo considerablemente las emisiones de CO2 a la atmósfera.

La solución propuesta consiste en la instalación de un generador Prism® de oxígeno con un sistema de separación por adsorción (VSA, por sus siglas en inglés, Vacuum Swing Adsoption) conectado a un depósito de reserva, diseñado para suministrar el gas a los hornos a un bajo coste, con la máxima versatilidad y sin el riesgo de cortes en el suministro. La generación in situ tiene muchas ventajas:

La planta de cemento deja de depender de las entregas de camiones cisterna ya que produce su propio oxígeno en las instalaciones.
Los costes de transporte se reducen y, con ellos, las emisiones de CO2.
Los cinco generadores están estandarizados y, por tanto, pueden intercambiarse y reubicarse en otras instalaciones si fuese necesario.

Un equipo compuesto por CEMEX y el Departamento de Innovación de Air Products, grupo al que pertenece Carburos Metálicos, ha llevado a cabo numerosas pruebas para garantizar que se cumplían todas las ventajas previstas, y que se superaban con creces las expectativas. Las cinco instalaciones españolas aptas para el uso de esta tecnología son: Buñol (Valencia), Castillejo (Toledo), Alicante, Alcanar (Tarragona) y Morata de Jalón (Zaragoza).

CEMEX se ha fijado el ambicioso objetivo de usar combustibles alternativos para cubrir el 35% de su consumo energético para 2015, con el objetivo de reducir sus emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero. Está previsto que se reduzcan las emisiones de CO2 a la atmósfera en unas 450.000 toneladas, cifra equivalente a las emisiones que generarían 180.000 vehículos que recorriesen unos 15.000 km en un año. Air Products Supplies Integrated Oxy-fuel Solution to Jinxin Glass in China

Air Products (NYSE:APD) recently signed a contract to supply its integrated oxy-fuel solution to Jinxin Glass in Jiyuan, Henan Province, China to help Jinxin reduce emissions and improve productivity and quality in its glass production.

A manufacturer of pharmaceutical borosilicate glass using coal oven gas for local companies and overseas markets, Jinxin had been looking for a new solution to substitute the traditional air-fuel combustion in its glass melting process to meet the local government’s emissions regulations. The Jiyuan government has set challenging emission reduction targets for all industries including the glass manufacturing industry.

The integrated oxy-fuel solution includes the supply of Cleanfire® HRiTM oxy-fuel burners and a PRISM® vacuum swing adsorption (VSA) oxygen generator which will supply reliable and economical oxygen. In addition, Air Products provides furnace commissioning and related on-site consulting services to Jinxin.

Air Products' On-Site Oxygen Production and Oxy-Combustion Technology Help CEMEX to Achieve Ambitious Environmental Objectives

Air Products (NYSE:APD), through its Spanish subsidiary Carburos Metálicos, has signed a major contract with CEMEX - world leader in the construction materials industry - to provide five of its Spanish' cement plants with its Prism® on-site oxygen generators and oxy-combustion system. The combination of these innovative and highly-efficient technologies, will generate significant savings at each operating site whilst considerably reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Oxy-combustion technology consists of injecting oxygen directly into the furnace burners creating greater yield, accelerated combustion, and the potential of increasing use of alternative fuels by up to 80%, thereby decreasing the consumption of fossil fuel and considerably reducing CO2 emissions to atmosphere.

The proposed solution consisted of installing a Prism® Vacuum Swing Adsorption (VSA) oxygen generator coupled to a backup tank, designed to supply the furnace with gas at low cost, with maximum flexibility and without the risk of supply disruption. The benefits of on-site generation are numerous:

The cement plant is no longer dependent on deliveries by a tanker as it produces its own oxygen at the site premises
Transport costs are reduced along with carbon footprint
The five generators are standardised, therefore interchangeable and can be relocated to another site if necessary

A team consisting of CEMEX and the Air Products' Innovation Department has completed numerous trials to ensure that the expected benefits have been achieved, with the results largely exceeding expectations. The five Spanish facilities capable of using this new technology are: Buñol (Valencia), Castillejo (Toledo), Alicante, Alcanar (Tarragona) and Morata de Jalón (Saragossa).

CEMEX has set itself the ambitious goal of using alternative fuels to cover 35% of its energy consumption by 2015 in order to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Reduction of CO2 emissions to atmosphere is expected to be 450,000 tonnes, the equivalent of the discharge produced by 180,000 vehicles covering around 15,000 km over a year. Thanks to Air Products, it is well on the way to achieving this.

Air Products, via sa filiale espagnole Carburos Metalicos, a signé avec Cemex - leader mondial de l'industrie des matériaux de construction - un contrat majeur pour équiper 5 de ses cimenteries ibériques avec ses générateurs d'oxygène sur site Prism® et de son système d'oxy-combustion. Grâce à cette astucieuse combinaison de deux technologies particulièrement efficaces , Cemex va réaliser des économies significatives pour chaque site en opération mais aussi réduire de façon conséquente sa consommation énergétique et ses émissions de CO2.

La technologie d'oxy-combustion consiste à injecter de l'oxygène directement dans les brûleurs du four. Résultats : plus de rendement, une combustion accélérée, la possibilité d'augmenter la consommation des carburants alternatifs jusqu'à 80%, donc une diminution de la consommation d'énergie fossile et par conséquent, une importante réduction des émissions de CO2 dans l'atmosphère.

Concrètement, la solution proposée a consisté à installer un générateur d'oxygène VSA (pour Vacuum Swing adsorption ou Adsorption sous vide alterné) Prism® couplé à un réservoir de secours sur chaque site afin d'alimenter le four en gaz à moindre coût ,avec le maximum de flexibilité et sans risquer la rupture d'approvisionnement. Les avantages de la génération sur site sont multiples :

la cimenterie n'est plus tributaire des livraisons par camion citerne puisqu'elle produit son oxygène sur place.
elle économise ainsi les fais de transports et réduit simultanément son empreinte carbone
les 5 générateurs sont identiques car standardisés. Ils sont donc interchangeables et relocalisables sur un autre site le cas échéant.

Une équipe conduite par le département Innovation d'Air Products et Cemex a mené à bien de nombreux tests afin de s'assurer que les bénéfices attendus étaient au rendez-vous. Les résultats des essais ont largement dépassé les attentes.

Cemex va donc équiper ses 5 usines espagnoles capables d'utiliser cette nouvelle technologie : Bunol (Valence),de Castillejo (Tolède), d'Alicante, d'Alcanar (Tarragone) et de Morata de Jalon (Saragosse).

Cemex s'est fixé comme objectif ambitieux pour 2015 d'utiliser des carburants alternatifs pour couvrir 35% de sa consommation énergétique afin de réduire ses émissions de gaz à effet de serre. Cemex estime que la solution mise en place avec Air Products va lui permettre de réduire de 450 000 tonnes ses émissions de C02 dans l'atmosphère sois l'équivalent des rejets que produiraient 180 000 véhicules parcourant environ 15 000 km sur une année.

Air Products versorgt CEMEX mit umweltfreundlicher Technologie für die Zementproduktion

Der Industriegasehersteller Air Products versorgt zukünftig über seine spanische Tochtergesellschaft Carburos Metálicos das Unternehmen CEMEX, Weltmarktführer für Baustoffe, mit Technologien für die Zementproduktion. An insgesamt fünf spanischen Standorten kommen die Prism®-Technologie zur Vor-Ort-Erzeugung von Sauerstoff sowie Verfahren zur Verbesserung der Verbrennung zum Einsatz. Die Kombination dieser beiden innovativen und hocheffizienten Technologien führt zu deutlichen Kosteneinsparungen an den jeweiligen Standorten und reduziert den Energieverbrauch sowie die CO2-Emission. Die Erwartungen liegen bei einer jährlichen Reduzierung von ca. 450.000 t des klimaschädlichen Treibhausgases.

Flexible Gasversorgung und verbesserte Verbrennung
Bei der Brennertechnologie wird Sauerstoff direkt in den Ofen eingedüst, wodurch die Produktivität erhöht, die Verbrennung beschleunigt und der Einsatz alternativer Brennstoffe um bis zu 80 Prozent erhöht werden kann. Im Vergleich zu einem konventionellen Verbrennungsprozess führt der reduzierte Anteil an fossilen Brennstoffen zu geringeren CO2-Emissionen.

Die für die Zementproduktion entwickelte Lösung besteht aus einem Prism-Vakuumwechseladsorptions-Sauerstoffgenerator in Kombination mit einem Puffertank. Der Generator versorgt den Brenner kostengünstig und flexibel mit Sauerstoff und verhindert jeglichen Versorgungsengpass. Die Vor-Ort-Gaserzeugung bietet CEMEX zahlreiche Vorteile im Vergleich zu anderen Versorgungsformen:

Die Zementfabrik ist nicht länger abhängig von Gaslieferungen, da der Sauerstoff je nach Bedarf vor Ort produziert wird
Die Transportkosten für die Gase entfallen und sorgen für eine geringere Gesamtemission (Carbon Footprint)
Die eingesetzten Generatoren sind standardisiert und untereinander austauschbar, d.h. sie können bei Bedarf auch problemlos anderorts eingesetzt werden

Gemeinsames Innovationsprojekt
Ein Projektteam von CEMEX und Air Products stellte in zahlreichen Testsläufen sicher, dass das System die gewünschten Einsparungen tatsächlich erzielt. Die Erwartungen wurden hierbei sogar übertroffen. Zu den fünf CEMEX-Anlagen, an denen das neue System zum Einsatz kommt, gehören: Buñol (Valencia), Castillejo (Toledo), Alicante, Alcanar (Tarragona) und Morata de Jalón (Saragossa).

CEMEX hat sich sehr ambitionierte Umweltziele gesteckt. So sollen 35 Prozent des internen Energiebedarfs bis 2015 mit alternativen Kraftstoffen gedeckt werden, um die emittierten Treibhausgase zu reduzieren. Die durch das aktuelle Projekt erwartete Reduktion emittierten CO2s liegt bei ca. 450.000 Tonnen jährlich. Das entspricht dem Verbrauch von rund 180.000 Fahrzeugen mit einer durchschnittlichen Strecke von je 15.000 km/Jahr. Air Products Signs Contract with Yongxin Glassware in China

Air Products (NYSE: APD), a leader in oxy-fuel combustion technology and an integrated solutions supplier to the global glass industry, recently signed a contract to supply its oxy-fuel solution to Kunshan Yongxin Glassware (Yongxin), a leader in heat resistant glassmaking for microwave ovens and other home appliances in China, to improve productivity and reduce emissions.

The integrated oxy-fuel solution includes the supply of Cleanfire® HRi oxy-fuel burners, automatic control skid for burners, and PRISM® vacuum swing absorption (VSA) oxygen generator, which will supply reliable and economical oxygen. Air Products also consulted on furnace design, and process and technique optimization.
