Air Products erweitert Angebot an Einwegflaschen für Spezialgase

Der Industriegasehersteller Air Products erweitert sein Angebot an Spezialgasen um recyclingfähige Einwegflaschen. Auf diese praktische Versorgungsform wird vor allem im Analytikbereich zurückgegriffen. Während Einwegflaschen bisher nur zeitweise zum Angebot von Air Products gehörten, hat das Unternehmen nun beschlossen, diese Versorgungsform langfristig und umfassend anzubieten. Damit begegnet Air Products der steigenden Nachfrage für Anwendungen, bei denen es besonders auf eine einfache Handhabung und Transportabilität der Gase ankommt.

Der Einsatz von Einwegflaschen empfiehlt sich vor allem für Anwendungen, bei denen nur geringe Volumina benötigt werden und es hauptsächlich auf eine schnelle Verfügbarkeit von unterschiedlichen, standardisierten Gasmischungen ankommt. Dies gilt beispielsweise für Gaswarngeräte und andere Spezialanwendungen in Laboren. Zudem entfällt die Flaschenmiete.

Die ‚International Safety Equipment Association' empfiehlt, dass Gaswarngeräte täglich einem Funktionstest unterzogen werden sollten, um sicherzustellen, dass Sensoren und der Alarm ordnungsgemäß funktionieren. Einwegflaschen mit einem Analysezertifikat sind für diesen Zweck besonders gut geeignet, da sie jederzeit problemlos zur Verfügung stehen und zugleich die notwendige Qualität und Zuverlässigkeit sicherstellen.

Die Einwegflaschen sind aus Aluminium gefertigt und in unterschiedlichen Kapazitäten von 12 bis 100 Liter Gasvolumen verfügbar. Zudem wird jede Gasflasche mit einem Analysezertifikat ausgeliefert. Aufgrund der langjährigen Erfahrung in der Abfüllung von Flaschengasen, kann Air Products sicherstellen, dass selbst hochreaktive Gasmischungen langfristig stabil bleiben. Nicht-reaktive Gasmischungen sind zudem mit einem Chargen-Prüfzertifikat ausgestattet, um die Konsistenz der eingesetzten Gase zu gewährleisten.

Air Products Expands Supply of Non-Refillable Cylinders

Air Products is expanding its supply of disposable, non-refillable cylinders to provide a more convenient gas product for use in gas analysis.

While non-refillable gas cylinders have been available to specialty gas users for some time, Air Products has decided to expand its supply of these products in order to meet demand for applications where ease of use and portability are critical.

Switching to non-refillable cylinders for low volume applications allows gas users to avoid rental charges when using smaller volumes of gas and benefit from speedy delivery of a wide range of standardised mixtures. These mixtures have been developed specifically for use in gas detection and other specialist laboratory applications.

Gary Yates, Air Products' European Product Manager Analytical and Laboratories, said: "When it comes to gas detection in areas like personal safety and plant protection, access to stable gas mixtures at short notice is essential and laboratory analysts are demanding a high standard of service from their gas supplier.

"Backed by our pan-European supply network, Air Products is ideally placed to extend this service to specialty gas users in a variety of industry sectors."

Non-refillable gas products are available in a range of aluminium cylinder types, with capacities ranging from 12 litres up to 100 litres and they are supplied with a Certificate of Analysis. Utilising Air Products' extensive cylinder-filling expertise, all reactive mixtures are guaranteed to provide long-term stability and non-reactive mixtures are batch-certified, ensuring consistency with the source gas.

According to Gary Yates, non-refillable gas products can provide much more than just enhanced convenience, they can bring significant safety benefits too. He said:

"The International Safety Equipment Association recommends that gas detection equipment should be 'bump' tested prior to each day of use or before each confined space entry in order to check that sensors and alarms are operating properly. Stable non-refillable gas products that come with a Certificate of Analysis are ideal for this purpose."

Air Products Completes Acquisition of CryoService Limited

Air Products (NYSE:APD) today announced it has completed the acquisition of the UK company CryoService Limited, which will now be known as Air Products CryoEase® Services.

This acquisition follows an initial 25 per cent stake in CryoService that Air Products purchased in 1998 and subsequent majority shareholding the company acquired in 2008. For over a decade both businesses have operated in partnership to supply cryogenic and specialist gases to customer's in science, leisure and general industry.

Air Products (NYSE:APD) heeft bekendgemaakt, dat het de overname van het Britse bedrijf CryoService Limited heeft afgerond. Het bedrijf, dat in 1970 werd opgericht, zal verder gaan onder de naam Air Products CryoEase® Services. Air Products had in 1998 al een belang van 25 procent in het bedrijf verworven, dat in 2008 werd omgezet in een meerderheidsbelang. Samen met Air Products levert CryoService cryogene en speciale gassen aan klanten in de industrie, het wetenschappelijk onderzoek en de recreatiesector.

"CryoService past mede dankzij de innovatieve cultuur, de geavanceerde technologie en haar servicegerichtheid prima bij Air Products", zei Ivo Bols, vice-president en general manager Merchant Gases Europe. "Deze overname is een volgende stap naar een compleet en integraal model voor de levering van industriële gassen. Air Products levert zijn gassen ook via pijpleidingen, met tankauto's en in gascilinders aan haar klanten.

Bij de CryoEase® service krijgen klanten, die een beperkte hoeveelheid gas gebruiken, het gas in vloeibare vorm door een tankauto op locatie geleverd. Het gas wordt bij de klant opgeslagen in zogenaamde CryoEase tanks, die een inhoud van 230 tot 2.000 liter kunnen hebben. Dit logistieke concept heeft een aantal aanzienlijke operationele en kostentechnische voordelen vergeleken met de traditionele leveringsmethoden van industriële gassen.

De vestiging van CryoService in Worcester was al uitgegroeid tot het centre of excellence van Air Products op het gebied van CryoEase® producten en diensten in Groot-Brittannië en Ierland. Vanuit de vestiging hoopt Air Products zijn CryoEase-diensten verder uit te breiden. Vanuit Worcester worden CryoEase-installaties voor Nederlandse klanten geleverd.

Air Products boucle l'acquisition de CryoService Limited

Air Products vient d'annoncer qu'il avait finalisé l'acquisition de la société britannique CryoService Limited qui portera désormais le nom d'Air Products CryoEase® Services.

Ce rachat fait suite à une première prise de participation de 25% de CryoService effectuée en 1998 par Air Products , suivie d'une prise de participation majoritaire en 2008. Depuis plus d'une décennie, les deux entités travaillent en partenariat pour approvisionner en gaz cryogéniques et gaz spéciaux leurs clients scientifiques, professionnels des loisirs ou de l'industrie générale.

« Le service client, l'innovation et la gestion technique ont toujours été prioritaires pour CryoService et sont en parfaite adéquation avec l'activité d'Air Products », a commenté Ivo Bols, Vice Président et Directeur général d'Air Products pour les Gaz marchands en Europe. « Cette acquisition démontre bien la stratégie d'Air Products : fonctionner comme un producteur de gaz industriels intégré pour optimiser croissance et rentabilité. En complétant les offres des Divisions Gros volumes, Vrac liquide et Gaz conditionnés, le mini-réservoir de CryoService va nous permettre de répondre encore mieux aux besoins de nos clients en leur offrant un choix exhaustif de modes de fourniture ».

Le Quartier général de CryoService dans le Worcester est devenu le Centre d'Excellence pour les produits et services CryoEase® d'Air Products en Grande-Bretagne et en Irlande et le Groupe prévoit de créer de nouveaux sites.

Imaginé pour les clients qui consomment mensuellement entre 100 m3 (10 bouteilles) et 3 000 m3 d'un seul produit (azote, argon ou oxygène), ce service exclusif comprend la location d'un petit réservoir de gaz liquide sur leur site, directement connecté aux équipements de production, en service 24h sur 24, 7 j/7 et ré-approvisionnable automatiquement.

Après une étude gratuite du site et de ses applications afin de valider le choix de la solution CryoEase® et de déterminer la taille du réservoir (de 230 à 2000 litres), ce dernier est installé rapidement, sans travaux de génie civil ou branchement électrique. Il est ensuite rempli de produit liquide (azote, argon ou oxygène) par un véhicule dédié. Puis le gaz est acheminé, au choix, sous forme liquide ou gazeuse, par un réseau, directement au point d'utilisation et donc disponible de façon permanente.

Les camions CryoEase® actuellement en service sont des 19 t ou 26 t spécialement conçus pour accéder aux sites les plus confinés. Mais leur réelle originalité réside dans leur pompe embarquée. Cette dernière est en effet totalement autonome (nul besoin d'une prise dédiée chez le client). Sa capacité de 28 bars permet en outre d'éviter les arrêts de production habituellement causés par la chute de pression dans le réseau du client au moment du remplissage du réservoir.

Son immersion dans l'azote liquide prévient également toute perte de produit. « Anti-gaspi », la pompe des véhicules CryoEase® est aussi efficace : elle remplit un réservoir de 2000 l en moins de 20 minutes sans même nécessiter la présence du client. Le service CryoEase® supprime toute manutention et manipulation de cadres et bouteilles. Le gaz est directement connecté au point d'utilisation réduisant du même coup l'exposition aux gaz pressurisés. La suppression des connexions et déconnexions des bouteilles garantit quant à elle une absence de pollution éventuelle du réseau de distribution du gaz lors des changements d'emballages.

Le client voit sa procédure administrative allégée et ne paie que le gaz qu'il utilise puisque les pertes résiduelles inévitables avec les bouteilles ne sont plus à l'ordre du jour. Finies les zones de stockage séparées pour les bouteilles de gaz vides et les pleines : l'empreinte au sol d'un réservoir de 1000 l de produit liquide est de 1m x 1m, soit l'équivalent en capacité de 7 cadres environ (ou 70 B 50) qui occuperaient 6 m2 au sol !

Der Industriegasehersteller Air Products übernimmt das englische Unternehmen CryoService Limited, das zukünftig unter dem Namen Air Products CryoEase® Services firmieren wird. CryoService ist spezialisiert auf die Gasversorgung von Unternehmen, die kleinere Volumina benötigen und über die Befüllung von Kleintanks versorgt werden. Das Versorgungsmodel verschafft Unternehmen mit entsprechendem Bedarf Kostenvorteile und verbessert die Betriebsabläufe.

Die Übernahme folgt auf eine 25-prozentige Beteiligung von Air Products im Jahr 1998 und die anschließende Mehrheitsbeteiligung im Jahr 2008. Die beiden Unternehmen haben als Partner über ein Jahrzehnt gemeinsam kryogene Gase und Spezialgase an Forschung und Industrie geliefert.

‚Spirit of Innovation'-Ausstellung des Industriegaseherstellers Air Products – Das Beste aus 21 Jahren erfolgreicher Forschung & Entwicklung

Der Industriegasehersteller Air Products feiert mit einer Ausstellung das 21-jährige Bestehen seiner Forschungs- und Entwicklungseinheit, der ‚European Technology Group', an deren Hauptsitz in Basingstoke, Großbritannien. Die Ausstellung ‚Spirit of Innovation' richtet sich an Studenten, Kunden sowie an Forschungs- und Industriepartner aus ganz Europa und befasst sich mit den bedeutendsten Erfolgsgeschichten seit der Gründung der Forschungs- und Entwicklungseinheit im Jahre 1991 sowie mit deren Einfluss auf Märkte und Industrien weltweit.

Preisgekrönte Technologien
Zwei der Exponate haben zusammen mit den dazugehörigen Maxx-Gasgemischen den "Queen's Award for Innovation" in den Jahren 2004 und 2007 gewonnen. Dies ist zum einen die BIP-Technologie (BIP = built-in-purifier, integriertes Gasreinigungssystem), die allerhöchste Reinheitsgrade für anspruchsvolle Laboranwendungen sicherstellt, sowie der Integra-Zylinder, der das Gasehandling einfacher, sicherer und kostengünstiger macht und bei gleicher Gasmenge nur halb so groß ist wie ein konventioneller Zylinder. Flaschengase und -bündel kommen nahezu in allen Industrien zum Einsatz, von der Untermeeresbautechnik bis hin zu Laboranalysen und beim Schweißen.

Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt von Air Products' Innovationskraft sind kryogene Technologien, also Verfahren, die mit Hilfe von Stickstoff Kälte erzeugen und beispielsweise bei der Weiterverarbeitung von Lebensmitteln, aber auch bei Anwendungen zur Emissionsvermeidung zum Einsatz kommen.

Exponate aus allen Unternehmensbereichen
Zu den Anfang Februar ausgestellten Produkten und Exponaten gehören unter anderem:

Tunnelfroster für die Lebensmittelindustrie, die mit flüssigem Stickstoff chargenweises und zugleich lose-rollendes Frosten ermöglichen. Das kryogene Verfahren hilft bei der Erhaltung der Produktqualität, indem es den Flüssigkeitsverlust beim Frosten reduziert und damit Geschmack, Textur und Anmutung der Lebensmittel beibehält.
Technologien zur kryogenen Emissionskontrolle, mit der beispielsweise flüchtige organische Substanzen und andere Schadstoffe am Ende eines Produkt-Lebenszyklus aus Kühlschränken und Frostern gefahrlos entfernt werden können.
Der preisgekrönte Integra-Zylinder, der in Kombination mit den Maxx-Gasgemischen leichter, einfacher zu handhaben und sicherer ist, als herkömmliche Zylinder. Vor allem Schweißfachkräfte profitieren von einer erhöhten Produktivität und Effizienz sowie von einer verbesserten Qualität der Schweißnähte.
Die Freshline-Lebensmittelgase, die in Schutzgasverpackungen (MAP, modified atmosphere packaging) die Haltbarkeit von Lebensmitteln verlängern und die Qualität zahlreicher Produktgruppen zu erhalten vermögen.

Firma Air Products, największy dostawca gazów technicznych w Polsce, zorganizowała w dniach 1-3 lutego 2012 roku w siedzibie Europejskiej Grupy Technologicznej (European Technology Group) Air Products w Basingstoke w Wielkiej Brytanii wystawę prezentującą osiągnięcia ponad 20 lat działań firmy w zakresie opracowywania innowacji. Wydarzenie było okazją do podkreślenia celowości inwestycji w badania i rozwój, a także wyeksponowania współpracy wielu podmiotów przy projektach badawczych.

Gośćmi wystawy „Duch innowacji” byli studenci kierunków ścisłych, partnerzy projektów badawczo-rozwojowych z całej Europy oraz klienci Air Products. Na wystawie można było zobaczyć najważniejsze oraz nagradzane projekty opracowane przez Europejską Grupę Technologiczną Air Products. Zaprezentowano osiągnięcia ośrodka od jego otwarcia w 1991 r. do

chwili obecnej oraz ich wpływ na rozwój wielu sektorów przemysłu na świecie. Dwa prezentowane eksponaty Air Products – technologia oczyszczania gazów wysokiej czystości BIP® oraz butla Integra® wraz z towarzyszącą jej ofertą gazów spawalniczych Maxx®, uzyskały prestiżową brytyjską nagrodę Queen’s Awards for Enterprise: Innovation, odpowiednio w 2004 i 2007 roku.

Wiele opracowanych przez firmę Air Products innowacji znalazło komercyjne zastosowanie w różnych gałęziach przemysłu. Air Products Announces "Spirit of Innovation" Exhibition to Showcase 21 Years of R&D Success

Air Products is hosting an exhibition at its European Technology Group’s headquarters in Basingstoke to showcase 21 years of innovation and to promote the importance of collaborative research projects as a focus for R&D investment.

The ‘Spirit of Innovation’ exhibition (1–3 February 2012) will be attended by local science students as well as a host of customer, research and industry partners from across Europe. Exhibits at the event will include some of the European Technology Group’s most significant and award-winning R&D success stories to date, since the facility opened in 1991, and their impact in the global marketplace. Two of the exhibits – Air Products’ BIP® technology and the Integra® cylinder, with its complementary Maxx® gases range, have achieved Queen’s Awards for Innovation in 2004 and 2007 respectively.

In recent decades, cryogenic technology has found many varied industrial uses in everything from food freezing systems to emissions control solutions, in fact, in virtually any application that benefits from an extremely cold environment. Industrial gas cylinders and cylinder packs are used in everything from sub sea construction to laboratory analysis and welding applications.

Air Products Announces North American Price Increase for Liquid and Bulk Industrial Gas Products

Effective, October 1, 2011, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE: APD) will increase product pricing and monthly service charges for merchant customers in North America. The pricing adjustments include increases of:

– 5 to 10% for liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid argon, liquid and bulk hydrogen; and;

– 3 to 5% for monthly service charges.

Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on other specific situations.

The revised prices will offset higher operating costs and increased input costs. Air Products is taking aggressive actions internally to mitigate rising costs by reinvesting to improve efficiencies and maintain reliable supply.

Air Products’ India Joint Venture Investing in Three New Merchant Gases Plants; Building a Fourth Plant for Long-Term Supply to Saint Gobain Glass

Air Products (NYSE: APD)today announced that INOX Air Products Ltd., its joint venture (JV) in India, will construct three air separation units (ASU) and liquefiers for the merchant market and also will build a fourth plant for long-term industrial gas supply to Saint Gobain Glass India. The four facilities are scheduled to come on stream during 2012.

“We are the market leader in merchant industrial gases in India, and these new plants are part of our strategy to continue to provide efficient and reliable product to support the strong growth in India. The anticipated manufacturing growth is more than seven percent annually over the next five years, and the demand for industrial gases has been steadily increasing,” said Pavan K. Jain, managing director of INOX Air Products. “The investments strengthen INOX Air Products’ existing substantial presence throughout India and reinforce our supply positions which we have achieved through our strong customer focus.”

INOX Air Products will build the ASU and liquefier merchant plants to produce liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid argon in the states of Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Puducherry. All three locations have a strong manufacturing base, and these cost-effective facilities are strategically located close to the principal markets that they serve.

INOX Air Products will also build an ASU and liquefier for the merchant market and signed a long-term supply contract for nitrogen and hydrogen with Saint Gobain Glass India (SGGI). The production plants, to be located at SGGI’s facility in the state of Rajasthan, will supply nitrogen from the ASU by pipeline and hydrogen from a steam methane reformer (SMR) plant designed to meet the specific requirements of the customer. The SMR is a product offering from Air Products’ PRISM® gas generation portfolio.

“A customer-focused approach was essential in gaining our business. Reliable supply is very important to our project, and we believe INOX Air Products’ industrial gas expertise will deliver on our industrial gas needs,” said Mr. S.N. Eisenhower, director–Operations at Saint Gobain Glass India.

In adding these four new facilities, INOX Air Products’ market presence in India continues to grow. Earlier this year, the company announced a long-term contract with POSCO Maharashtra Steel Private Limited (PMSPL) to supply on-site nitrogen and hydrogen gases to its new facility in Vile Bhagad, Maharashtra, in western India. PMSPL is a subsidiary of POSCO, the world’s fourth largest steel producer by output. The nitrogen plant and the SMR are both product offerings from Air Products’ PRISM® gas generation portfolio. The plants are expected to come on stream in late 2011.

Air Products and MATHESON Break Ground for New Wyoming Helium Plant

Air Products (NYSE: APD) and MATHESON, a member of the Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation (TNSC) group, today announced that on-site construction has commenced on a new, jointly-owned liquid helium production plant near Big Piney, Wyoming. The plant, designed to produce 200 million standard cubic feet per year at start-up, with expectations for future expansion to 400 million standard cubic feet per year, would process crude helium produced by a natural gas processing facility that would be operated by Cimarex Energy Co.

The Cimarex facility, which is currently under construction, will process natural gas from the Riley Ridge Field in Wyoming, one of the largest helium-rich natural gas fields in the United States. The Riley Ridge field is believed to contain sufficient helium reserves to support production for decades. Production at the new Wyoming plant is anticipated to commence in 2011.

Air Products, the global leader in helium production, has pioneered many of the helium extraction, production, distribution and storage technologies used in the industry today. Air Products maintains the world’s largest helium production and distribution system and operates numerous facilities around the world.

“The Big Piney plant will further diversify our helium source portfolio and enhance our ability to reliably serve our customer base,” said John Van Sloun, general manager - Worldwide Helium at Air Products. “We are excited to be involved with this project as a direct participant because it will enable us to provide high on stream operations and reliable supply.” Van Sloun added, “Air Products continues to look for other helium source opportunities where we can participate both as an investor and an operator.”

MATHESON manages the global helium business of TNSC under the name MATHESON Global Helium. TNSC is the leading helium supplier in Japan, and is one of only five major industrial gas companies in the world with direct access to helium sources.

“The helium produced from the Big Piney Plant will help to solidify MATHESON’s helium supply for the long term and will give us the opportunity to grow our business. We are pleased that our newest source will be located in Wyoming, close to our existing supply from ExxonMobil, which will enable us to have a simple, efficient and reliable supply chain to serve our customers located in the U.S. and Asian markets,” said Phil Kornbluth, executive vice president, International and Helium for MATHESON.

Upon completion, the Wyoming helium production plant will be the 10th liquid helium plant operating in the United States, and the first new U.S. facility constructed in over a decade. It is expected to employ 8-10 people after start-up.

Helium is used in many unique and valued applications including: magnetic resonance imaging (MRI); lifting for high altitude scientific research balloons, blimps and party balloons; fiber optics and semi-conductor manufacturing; metallurgy; breathing atmospheres for deep diving or unique blood gas medical mixtures; analytical chemistry; pressurizing and purging pipes, vessels, and other critical equipment; leak detection; and other advanced applications.

Air Products to Build New ASU at Granite City, Illinois

Air Products (NYSE: APD) today announced the signing of a new long-term oxygen and nitrogen supply agreement, and that it will build a new air separation unit (ASU) and refurbish its existing ASU and liquefier at its facility in Granite City, Illinois. The new facility, planned to be onstream in the second quarter of 2012, will provide additional capacity for meeting both on-site customer demand for gases and merchant liquid products in the region.

“Air Products has been producing industrial gases at Granite City since the 1950s. This new investment will expand our capability to serve current customers and provide significant modernization of our operations there. It represents another step in our commitment to existing customers in that area, and strengthens Air Products’ ability to supply merchant liquid products to customers in the Midwest market,” said Wilbur Mok, vice president–Tonnage Gases North America for Air Products.

The new 500-ton-per-day ASU, planned to be onstream in 2012, in combination with the existing, refurbished ASU and liquefier, will add capability to serve both the on-site customer and the merchant market. Total argon capacity for the site will also increase as a result of this project.

Butle napełniane pod ciśnieniem 200 bar mogą pomieścić większą ilość gazu (w zależności od rodzaju gazu nawet o 50% więcej) niż te napełniane pod ciśnieniem 150 bar, obecnie najczęściej dostępne w Polsce. Napełnianie pod wyższym ciśnieniem oznacza więc przede wszystkim obniżenie kosztów dla użytkowników butli. Gasmengsels van Air Products voortaan twee keer zo lang houdbaar

Air Products, leverancier van gassen en chemicaliën voor diverse markten, heeft bekendgemaakt dat veel van zijn kalibratiemengsels voor gebruik bij analytische toepassingen voortaan twee keer zo lang houdbaar zijn. Daarmee gaat de houdbaarheid van vijf naar tien jaar. Air Products heeft met deze ontwikkeling een nieuwe norm gezet voor de Europese gasindustrie.

De verdubbeling in houdbaarheid is te danken aan de technologische ontwikkelingen op het gebied van productie en cilinderbehandeling. De voordelen spreken voor zich: langere houdbaarheid biedt extra zekerheid aan de vele gebruikers van de gassen, waartoe onder andere de farmaceutische, chemische en petrochemische industrie behoren, en laboratoria en klanten op het gebied van milieubeheer.

Veel van de gasmengsels van Air Products bevatten meer dan 100 componenten, waaronder argon, helium, kooldioxide, zuurstof, edelgassen en vele (gehalogeneerde) koolwaterstoffen. Ze worden geleverd met een analysecertificaat van Air Products, en tien jaar garantie.

Gary Yates, Air Products European Product Manager voor de analytische markt, vertelt: "Dit is een doorbraak voor de gassenindustrie. Bedrijven die heel specifieke gasmengsels gebruiken bij kalibratie of andere vormen van kwaliteitscontrole kunnen ervan op aan dat het mengsel een tiental jaren in stabiele staat blijft. Die betrouwbaarheid koesteren we."

Voorheen werd de stabiliteit van gasmengsels voor een periode van maximaal vijf jaar gegarandeerd, afhankelijk van de gebruikte componenten en hun concentratie.

Yates vervolgt: "Het is van belang dat gasmengsels niet langer worden gebruikt dan aangegeven. De kwaliteit van mengsels gaat nu eenmaal achteruit na verloop van tijd. Dat zou kunnen resulteren in onnauwkeurige kalibratie, waarop tijdrovende en kostbare herbewerking volgt. Dankzij de lange houdbaarheidsgarantie van Air Products is dubbel werk niet nodig."

Yates geeft aan dat de langere houdbaarheid met name van pas komt als bedrijven een klein volume gas verwachten te gebruiken. Hij legt uit: "Bij kalibratie van analytische toepassingen wordt maar een klein beetje gas gebruikt. Een langere houdbaarheid is daarom met name interessant voor kleine gebruikers die niet vaak kalibraties verrichten. Maar het is natuurlijk ook voor gebruikers van grotere volumes heel prettig om te weten dat hun kalibratiemengsels aanzienlijk langer goed blijven."

Ses recherches sur les process de production des gaz et de traitement de ses bouteilles ont permis à Air Products d’établir une nouvelle norme pour l’industrie gazière européenne : le Groupe a fait passer de 5 à 10 ans la durée de conservation de nombreux mélanges gazeux à vocation analytique. Premiers bénéficiaires de cette avancée technologique majeure : les laboratoires d’analyse et de contrôle Qualité (industrie pharmaceutique, chimique et pétrochimique, contrôle environnemental) utilisant des mélanges de gaz très variés mais en petite quantité pour chaque calibration ou effectuant des analyses peu fréquentes

Jusqu’à maintenant, la stabilité des mélanges de gaz était garantie pour une période maximale de 5 ans en fonction de la nature et de la concentration de leurs composants. Mais Air Products est dorénavant en mesure d’offrir à ses clients un certificat d’analyse avec une garantie de 10 ans pour un grand nombre de mélanges gazeux de plus de 100 composants (dont l’argon, l’hélium, le dioxyde de carbone, l’oxygène, des gaz rares et de nombreux hydrocarbures et gaz halogénés).

Selon Gary Yates - Product Manager pour le marché analytique chez Air Products -« Ceci constitue une réelle percée pour l’industrie gazière. Les sociétés utilisant des mélanges de gaz très spécifiques pour la calibration ou des applications de contrôle Qualité savent en effet maintenant qu’elles peuvent utiliser leurs mélanges en toute sérénité jusqu’à 10 ans après leur achat, sans jamais douter de leur stabilité. » Il ajoute : « Il est important de ne pas employer les mélanges gazeux au-delà de leur date limite de stockage car tous finissent par se détériorer dans le temps. Ne pas respecter cette date revient à s’exposer à un manque de précision des calibrations. Il faut alors procéder à une seconde analyse de contrôle, ce qui constitue une perte de temps comme d’argent. La garantie de 10 ans d’Air Products élimine ce risque de devoir s’y reprendre à deux fois ».

Toujours selon Gary, « Cette prolongation du temps de stockage est particulièrement intéressante pour les sociétés appelées à ne consommer que de petits volumes. Cependant, tous les analystes gagneront en sérénité en achetant des mélanges de calibration qui demeurent stables pendant une période beaucoup plus longue ».

Air Products Announces North American Price Increase for Liquid and Bulk Industrial Gas Products

Effective October 1, 2009, or as contracts permit, Air Products (NYSE:APD) will increase pricing and monthly service charges as follows for merchant customers in North America for the following products:

liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid argon, liquid and bulk hydrogen by 4% to 8%; and
liquid and bulk helium by 5% to 10%.

Some price adjustments may be outside of these ranges based on other specific situations.

This pricing initiative is in response to higher operating costs related to running plants with significantly lower product demand, in addition to both higher energy costs and overall increases associated with the production and distribution of merchant gas products.

El servicio CryoEase de Carburos Metalicos una solucion para el suministro de gases

Carburos Metálicos, Grupo Air Products, cuenta con el servicio CryoEase® para el suministro de gases como el nitrógeno, oxígeno, argón o dióxido de carbono, entre otros. Gracias a este servicio se puede instalar un depósito compacto que proporciona el gas a la presión adecuada y de forma ininterrumpida, incluso durante la recarga de los depósitos.

Al utilizarse un solo depósito en vez de los habituales bloques de botellas, se consigue una reducción del espacio necesario. Por poner un ejemplo, un pequeño depósito de líquido puede contener el equivalente a 16 botellas a alta presión ocupando un espacio más reducido. Asimismo, al instalarse un sólo depósito se mejora la seguridad y eficacia, ya que el gas se canaliza directamente al punto de utilización, se evita el riesgo de contaminación cruzada al ser recipientes de uso exclusivo, y las entregas, que disminuyen respecto a las botellas, no requieren de la intervención ni manipulación por parte del cliente.

Otra de las ventajas del sistema CryoEase^® es su amplia gama de depósitos que van de los 25 a los 2.000 litros al igual que su fácil instalación. Para su ubicación normalmente no es necesaria ninguna cimentación especial, ni licencia de obra y no requiere de corriente eléctrica ni otros servicios.

Su abastecimiento se realiza de forma automática sin necesidad de realizar ningún pedido con un camión cisterna de Carburos Metálicos de dimensiones reducidas que acude cuando el nivel de gas en el depósito baja hasta un nivel preestablecido. Air Products Announces Investments in Europe

Today, Air Products announced that it is capitalizing on its recent investment in Eastern Europe with several announcements in the region.

Air Products has signed a contract with Alcoa, in Russia, to supply nitrogen to Alcoa’s aluminum plant in Samara. As part of the agreement, Air Products will install two high purity nitrogen generators, and will take over the existing generator on the site. The new generators will be on-stream in 2009.

Russia is an important growth market for Air Products, where the company is involved in projects in the Moscow region and now in the Samara region.

As the largest supplier of technical and industrial gases in Poland, Air Products is further strengthening its leadership position in the Polish market with the announcement today that it will build a state-of-the-art cylinder filling depot in Warsaw, Poland. The construction is due to start in 2009 and the depot is due to be operational in 2010. The depot will use the latest technology to fill over 3,000 cylinders per day at a pressure of 200 bar, which is the standard cylinder pressure currently used in Poland. A 200 bar cylinder holds a greater quantity of gas than 150 bar cylinders, which translates into cost reduction for the users, as less frequent fillings are needed, and in turn reduces transport and storage costs.

The depot will be equipped to fill cylinders with all types of medical gases, technical gases, including argon, nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide and mixtures, and Linx™ gases, the most technically-advanced range of welding gases available in Poland, as well as modified atmospheric packaging (MAP) gases for the food industry.

This is the second technical gas filling depot to be built by Air Products in Poland, following the opening of the depot in Kędzierzyn-Koźle in 2005.

In Slovakia, Air Products’ new high purity hydrogen plant, in Novaky, is now on-stream. The plant will bring on additional hydrogen capacity to customers in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary. It complements the company’s existing facility in Litvinov, Czech Republic, and will support key industries such as glass, metals and food.

Air Products today announced that it completed the acquisition of a majority shareholding in CryoService Limited. This investment builds on Air Products’ strong position in the UK merchant gases sector and reaffirms its confidence in CryoService Limited and the microbulk method of supply.

Air Products announced in April 2008 its acquisition of a majority shareholding in CryoService Limited, subject to clearance from the UK regulatory authorities. It has subsequently obtained this regulatory clearance.

CryoService Limited is a leading supplier of microbulk solutions in the UK, holding strong positions in drinks dispense, biomedical and analytical applications. It will continue to operate as a separate entity, under the existing management team led by John Carver.

CryoService Limited pioneered the microbulk concept in the early 70s. It offers the convenience of bulk gas deliveries, to customers who would traditionally be considered too small for this method of supply.

Air Products acquired its original 25% shareholding in CryoService Limited in 1998.

Air Products Extends Range of Accredited Calibration Gases

Air Products has extended its range of top grade calibration mixtures, which provides the ultimate in accuracy and traceability for the most demanding analytical applications, such as air emissions monitoring.

These multi-component gas mixtures, which are part of the Experis® range of specialty gases, are available in a wide range of concentrations - down to ppb levels - and come with a calibration certificate from one of Air Products’ ISO 17025 accredited laboratories. This certification confirms their suitability for demanding applications which require the lowest levels of uncertainties such as air quality monitoring systems; vehicle exhaust monitoring systems and natural gas analysers.

The new extended range of ultra high accuracy gas mixtures are produced at Air Products’ European Specialty Gases Laboratory which is accredited to ISO 17025 by ENAC (Entidad Nacional de Acreditacion). Due to the European Multilateral Agreement that exists between several European accreditation bodies, this means that the ISO 17025 certification fulfils UKAS standards here in the UK and similar standards that apply in other parts of Europe.

Kalibrační směsi rychle a snadno a bezpečně

Nadnárodní společnost Air Products, největší světový dodavatel průmyslových a vysoce čistých technických plynů a souvisejícího technologického vybavení, zprovoznil v Čechách a na Slovensku internetovou aplikaci – Selektor směsí Experis -umožňující rychlou a bezpečnou objednávku kalibračních plynných směsí.

Plnící stanice technických plynů společnosti Air Products v Děčíně dokončena

Nadnárodní společnost Air Products, největší světový dodavatel průmyslových a vysoce čistých technických plynů a souvisejícího technologického vybavení, obdržela dnes povolení k provozu na novou plnicí stanici technických plynů, kterou postavila ve svém areálu v Děčíně, Rozbělesy.

Nová investice v objemu několika desítek milionů korun zvýší kapacitu původní plnicí stanice na dvojnásobek a umožní plnit plyn do tlakových lahví jak pod tlakem 200, tak i 300 barů (30MPa). Původní plnicí stanice bude přebudována na plnění tlakových lahví kyslíkem pro zdravotnické účely, v objemu od 2 do 50 litrů.

Z technických plynů jsou v Děčíně do tlakových lahví plněny kyslík, dusík, argon, kysličník uhličitý a jejich směsi. Žádný z nich není ani hořlavý ani výbušný. Tyto plyny jsou vyráběny v závodu Air Products v Litvínově a do Děčína jsou dováženy v cisternách. V prostorách plnicí stanice jsou tyto plyny skladovány v kapalném skupenství v zásobnících při teplotách v rozmezí mínus 175 až mínus 180 stupňů Celsia. Plyny v kapalném skupenství zabírají řádově stokrát menší objem než ve skupenství plynném. Zásobníky na jejich skladování (takzvané kryogenní zásobníky) dodala děčínská firma Chart Ferox, která sídlí ve stejné průmyslové zóně jako Air Products.

Zajímavou částí technologie jsou velké tepelné výměníky, ve kterých se před plněním do lahví plyn ze zásobníků ohřívá a přechází ze skupenství kapalného do plynného. Tepelné výměníky odvádějí chlad z plynu do okolního prostředí, při čemž se v okolí tepelných výměníků tvoří při zemi dobře viditelná mlha.

Tlakové lahve včetně technologií, do kterých jsou technické plyny v Děčíně plněny, představují technologickou špičku v oboru. Průmyslové plyny určené například pro sváření jsou plněny do tlakových lahví INTEGRA, které mají ve své hlavici zabudovány redukční ventil, rychlospojku a měřič tlaku. Jejich předností je i plnění pod tlakem 300 bar. Díky těmto technologiím a parametrům jsou lahve INTEGRA vysoce bezpečné, ekonomické a snadno se s nimi manipuluje, protože jsou o 50 cm nižší a o 24% lehčí než klasické lahve plněné pod tlakem 200 bar.

Air Products Acquires Majority Shareholding in CryoService Limited

Air Products today announced that it has contracted to acquire a majority shareholding in CryoService Limited. This investment builds on Air Products’ strong position in the UK merchant gases sector and reaffirms its confidence in CryoService and the microbulk method of supply.

CryoService is a leader in the British microbulk solutions and holds strong positions in drinks dispense, biomedical and analytical applications. It will continue to operate as a separate entity, under the existing management team led by John Carver.

Kundeninformation Anpassung des GGVS Mautsatzes zum 1 Marz 2008

Gestiegene Dieselpreise

Laut Statistischem Bundesamt erreichten die Dieselpreise bei Abgabe an Großverbraucher im November 2007 ihren historischen Höchstwert von 103,96 EUR pro 100 Liter. Im Jahresvergleich (Dezember 2006 - Dezember 2007) stiegen die Dieselpreise sogar um 18,2% von 87,62 EUR auf 103,56 EUR pro 100 l.

Erhöhte Mautgebühren

Die Mautgebühren wurden zum 1. September 2007 um 8,9% von durchschnittlich 12,4 Cent auf 13,5 Cent pro Kilometer angehoben. Darüber hinaus hat das Bundesministerium für Verkehr, Bau und Stadtentwicklung (BMVBS) bereits jetzt die nächste Mauterhöhung zum 1. Oktober 2008 um bis zu 52% je nach Emissionsklasse angekündigt.

Reduzierung der Arbeitszeiten für Kraftfahrer

Seit April 2007 dürfen Kraftfahrer laut Arbeitszeitgesetz nur noch maximal 48 anstelle der bisherigen 60 Stunden pro Woche arbeiten. Diese Neuregelung stellt eine erhebliche Kostenbelastung dar, da der verkürzte Arbeitszeitrahmen zusätzliches Fahrerpersonal erfordert.

Selbst ständige Prozessoptimierungen und Rationalisierungsmaßnahmen können diese zusätzlichen Belastungen nicht völlig kompensieren. Wir sehen uns deshalb gezwungen, Teile dieser Kostensteigerungen an unsere Kunde weiterzugeben und den GGVS/Mautsatz für unsere tiefkalten verflüssigten Gase (Sauerstoff, Stickstoff und Argon) sowie für Wasserstoff anzupassen.

New EU Car Emissions Legislation Forces Focus on Gas Analysis Says Air Products

As the EU unveils new legislation to curb car emissions, Air Products is urging manufacturers to make sure that systems used to measure greenhouse gas emissions are accurate and reliable.

According to the legislative proposals published by the European Commission on 19 December 2007 (the 70/220/EEC Directive ‘Measures to be taken against air pollution by emissions from motor vehicles’), European carmakers will be required to reduce average carbon dioxide emissions from new cars to 130 grams per km by 2012, nearly 20% below current levels. The long-awaited draft legislation is part of a move to reduce Europe’s total carbon dioxide emissions from road transport, which currently stands at 19%.

Depending on the progress of the legislation and the speed with which it is adopted by national governments, the automotive industry may need to respond quickly to achieve the specified emissions targets, which will apply to all new cars and light duty vehicles and to avoid a potential penalty. Accurate and reliable emissions testing systems, which fulfil the latest international quality standards, will be critical to confirm compliance.

Lieve de Paepe, Air Products’ European Product Manager Analytical and Laboratories, says:

“As automotive manufacturers face up to the requirements of this tough new environmental legislation, the ability to take accurate and consistent readings of emissions; with the lowest levels of uncertainties, across a range of greenhouse gases, is increasingly critical.

“Manufacturers should review their existing emissions monitoring systems to ensure they are making use of pure gases and gas mixtures that provide the greatest assurance of reliability, accuracy and traceability.”

Recent technological developments in the production and supply of specialty gases – the pure gases and gas mixtures used in gas analysis – are helping to improve the accuracy of emissions monitoring systems. In particular, Air Products has developed new cylinder filling techniques and treatments that increase the reliability of results by ensuring the gas products remain stable for longer. As a result, uncertainty levels are minimised.

Lieve de Paepe says:

“The accuracy of emissions measurements is increasingly important but can be difficult to achieve – especially when working with complex mixtures comprising reactive components at low concentrations. As a result, many manufacturers are joining forces with suppliers to find new ways to reduce uncertainty levels as far as possible.

“Applying the right cylinder treatment and adjusting the way individual components are weighed and added to the cylinder, significantly enhance stability and so guarantee the accuracy of measurements.”

In the drive to improve accuracy and minimise uncertainty levels, most manufacturers prefer to use high grade specialty gases that come with a certificate of analysis from an ISO 17025 laboratory. Some are also taking steps to ensure that the systems in place fulfil the European quality standard for stack emissions monitoring, known as EN 14181, which was adopted in the UK in 2004. While not a legislative requirement, this standard sets out a step by step guide to emissions monitoring and provides an assurance of accuracy and reliability.

Air Products and Matheson Tri-Gas to Form Joint Venture to Build and Operate New Wyoming Helium Plant

Air Products (NYSE: APD) and Matheson Tri-Gas, Inc., a member of the Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation (TNSC) group, today announced their intention to jointly build and operate a liquid helium production plant near Big Piney, Wyoming. The plant, designed to produce 200 million standard cubic feet per year at start-up, with expectations for future capacity expansion, would process crude helium produced by a natural gas processing facility that would be owned by Cimarex Energy Co. (NYSE: XEC) and their partner, Riley Ridge LLC.

The Cimarex facility would process natural gas from the Riley Ridge Field in Wyoming, the second largest helium-rich natural gas field in the United States. Riley Ridge is believed to contain sufficient helium reserves to support production for decades. Production at the new Wyoming plant is anticipated to commence in 2009.

Air Products, the global leader in helium production, has pioneered many of the helium extraction, production, distribution and storage technologies used in the industry today. Air Products maintains the world’s largest helium production and distribution system and operates numerous facilities around the world.

Matheson Tri-Gas Global Helium was formed in September 2006 when its parent company, TNSC, acquired the helium assets that were divested in connection with Linde AG’s acquisition of The BOC Group, plc. TNSC is the leading helium supplier in Japan, and is one of only six industrial gas companies in the world with direct access to helium sources.

“Taiyo Nippon Sanso purchased a ‘sold out’ helium business from Linde with limited ability to grow. Helium from the Riley Ridge Project will improve our ability to supply existing customers and provide the opportunity to grow the business beginning in 2009. Upon completion, the Wyoming helium production plant will be the 10th liquid helium plant operating in the United States, and the first new U.S. facility since 2000. It is expected to employ approximately 8-10 people after start-up.

Nové tlakové lahve pro český trh

Společnost Air Products, největší světový dodavatel chemikálií, průmyslových a vysoce čistých plynů a souvisejícího technologického vybavení , uvedla při příležitosti výstavy LABOREXPO 2007 na český trh novou tlakovou lahev na vysoce čisté plyny o objemu 10 litrů s patentovanou technologií BIP.

Nová lahev bude plněna vysoce čistým argonem, dusíkem a heliem a je určena především pro mobilní laboratoře provádějící analytická měření, jako je například chromatografie nebo měření čistoty ovzduší. Díky své nízké váze a snadnému použití je vhodná také do prostorově stísněných podmínek nebo pro aplikace s menší spotřebou plynu.

Podle Garyho Yatese, produktového manažera pro Evropu společnosti Air Products, využívá desetilitrová lahev unikátní patentovanou technologii firmy Air Products s označením BIP (built-in purifier) zajišťující vysokou čistotu skladovaného plynu po dlouhé časové období. „Lahev má zabudované dočišťovače, takže není nutné používat externí, a je vybavena automatickým ventilem zabraňujícím zpětnému průniku nečistot do lahve. Lahve s technologií BIP vykazují nejnižší dostupnou úroveň nečistot, konkrétně u kyslíku méně než 10 ppb a u vlhkosti méně než 20 ppb, což je zásadní pro analytická měření jak v laboratořích, tak v průmyslu,“ řekl Gary Yates.

Als antwoord op de toegenomen vraag naar complexe kalibratiemengsels introduceert Air Products, leverancier van gassen en chemicaliën voor diverse markten, Experis® Mixture Selector, een intelligent online programma voor het eenvoudig selecteren van het juiste gasmengsel. Met dit programma kunnen gebruikers in een handomdraai offertes aanvragen voor de nauwkeurige, stabiele en traceerbare Experis-gasmengsels.

In het programma wordt de gewenste cilindergrootte, het type mengsel en de samenstelling opgegeven en al na enkele minuten wordt de aanvraag verstuurd. Vervolgens stuurt het verkoopteam binnen de kortst mogelijke tijd een persoonlijke offerte. Ook kunnen aangevraagde mengsels worden opgeslagen als referentie voor volgende aanvragen.

Bij gasanalyse wordt gebruik gemaakt van uiterst complexe gasmengsels, waarin veelal lage concentraties ongebruikelijke of reactieve gassen zijn opgenomen. Als zo'n complex mengsel niet op de juiste wijze wordt samengesteld, kan het instabiel worden. In de Experis Mixture Selector zijn alleen ultrazuivere en traceerbare gassen opgenomen. Air Products Completes Purchase of BOC Gazy from Linde

Air Products (NYSE:APD) announced today that it has completed the acquisition of the industrial gas business of BOC Gazy Sp z o.o. from The Linde Group for 370 million euros or about $503 million. With this transaction, Air Products is now the leading industrial gas supplier in Central Europe’s fastest growing economy.

Air Products announced on January 8 its intention to acquire the BOC Gazy business and has since received clearance from the European and Polish regulatory authorities.

Combined with Air Products’ existing Polish business, 2006 sales were about 140 million euros or about $190 million.

Air Products Completes Expansion of Its China Technology Center

Air Products (NYSE: APD) has embarked on a major expansion of its China Technology Center in Shanghai to support the fast-growing businesses in Asia. The expanded center will further complement Air Products’ regional technology centers in Japan, Korea and Taiwan.

The expansion, built on space adjoining the current facility, has a high bay which is equipped with two high-pressure polyurethane machines and accessory tools for both rigid and flexible applications that supplement the existing shoe sole capability. Two spray booths, aqueous and non-aqueous, will be used for spray coating development. The new space also features a general-purpose lab with additional fume hoods, expanded chemicals storage areas and associated office space to provide new application and product development, technical services, process R&D and in-region analytical to support all businesses including Gases, Performance Materials and Electronics.

The expansion of the China Technology Center will enable Air Products to enhance its capabilities and material solution offerings, and bring support closer to its key customers in Asia, particularly in sectors such as polyurethane, coatings, inks, adhesives, civil engineering, personal care, cleaning, mining, oil field and other industries. These markets are growing at over 10 percent a year, and growth is expected to accelerate as China continues to develop as a global manufacturing center.

Air Products to Acquire Polish Industrial Gas Business from Linde

Air Products (NYSE:APD) today announced it has reached definitive agreement with The Linde Group to acquire the industrial gas business of BOC Gazy Sp z o.o. for 370 million euros ($481 million). The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions. For regulatory purposes, BOC Gazy was required to be sold by Linde as a result of its purchase of The BOC Group plc in September 2006.

The BOC Gazy business had fiscal year 2006 sales of approximately 126 million euros ($164 million) and earnings before tax, interest, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of approximately 38 million euros ($50 million). The business has approximately 750 employees, five major industrial gas plants and six cylinder transfills serving customers across a diverse range of industries, including chemicals, steel and base metals, among others.

Air Products' Membrane Manufacturing Facility Expanding to Meet Growing Demand

Air Products (NYSE: APD) today announced that it is doubling manufacturing capacity at its PRISM® membrane production plant in St. Louis, Mo. The 25,000 square foot building expansion project, expected to be on-stream in the summer of 2007, will provide the additional capacity to meet membrane product demand from several major market applications. Air Products currently produces approximately 20,000 membrane modules per year at the location.

The St. Louis facility produces advanced proprietary hollow fiber membranes which separate mixtures of gases by permeating molecules through membrane fibers at varied rates. For example, the PRISM membranes can separate compressed air -- oxygen from nitrogen -- to produce an inert nitrogen gas with 95 to 99.5 percent purity. In addition to generating nitrogen from compressed air, Air Products' membranes are also used to dry air and natural gas, and to recover for reuse industrial process gases such as hydrogen. Air Products' PRISM membranes have a wide array of applications ranging from producing gases to inert fuel tanks aboard aircraft, to use in coal mine methane recovery operations in China, for use in enriching oxygen for passengers on the world's longest and highest highland railway -- the Qinghai-Tibet railway, and to produce nitrogen for blanketing chemical, methanol and liquefied gas shipments around the globe.

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD) is instituting the following initiatives:

Effective July 15, 2005, Air Products will increase pricing on liquid/bulk oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen and helium 5 to 25% as contracts allow. These price increases are primarily related to production, feedstock and distribution cost increases.
Also effective July 15, 2005, Air Products will increase the amount of its hazardous materials (hazmat) charge to $20 per delivery. This hazmat increase reflects the additional costs and investments related to enhanced security and compliance activities.

New Air Products Technology Delivers Ultra-High Purity Oxygen To The Analytical Research Market

Air Products (NYSE:APD) today announced the commercial launch of its PRISM™ high-purity oxygen generator product line, an advanced technology that lets customers avoid the hassles of managing and maintaining an inventory of oxygen cylinders.

The advanced solid-state technology is convenient and simple to use. By plugging the unit into any standard US 110 volt electrical outlet, the on-site generator can produce 99.999% purity oxygen that is free from hydrocarbons, as well as biological or chemical impurities. Such high-purity oxygen has many applications and is valued in a variety of markets, including those that serve analytical laboratories.

The technology is being taken to market with the assistance of LECO Corporation,a global leader in the development of high-quality analytical instrumentation. Based in St. Joseph, Michigan, LECO has provided design support, testing, and use of its state-of-the art research and development center for the PRISM generator.

"In talking with customers and representatives in the analytical research market, we continued to hear about the desire to produce affordable, high-purity oxygen right at their sites," explained Ron Long, business development manager. "Before today, that wasn't an option. Now, customers no longer have to worry about transporting and operating cylinders."

PRISM high-purity oxygen generators are based on an advanced solid-state technology called Ion Transport Membranes (ITM), which are used to separate pure oxygen from air. Air Products worked closely with Salt Lake City, Utah-based Ceramatec,Inc. to develop the ITM technology. By applying an electrical current to the ceramic membranes, only oxygen ions are allowed to pass through. They then combine with other ions to form oxygen molecules, resulting in extremely high purity oxygen.

PRISM high-purity oxygen generators may drive down operating costs while improving end-use performance. They provide a solution of particular interest to laboratories and the analytical instrument market because they eliminate the chore of handling and storing cylinders on-site.

Air Products Expands Supply Options to Industrial Gases Customers

Air Products (NYSE: APD) today announced a non-conventional service offering for its small volume industrial gases customers in North America. Called Microbulk Service, it is Air Products' newest gas supply option that provides the most technically-advanced and cost-effective alternative to traditional cylinder gas packaging in the marketplace.

The Microbulk Service package is being showcased from February 28 to March 3 at PITTCON®2005 in Orlando, Florida—an exhibition featuring the latest technologies in analytical laboratory instrumentation, supplies and services. Air Products' newly-designed on-site storage containers will be on display for customers looking to learn more about reliable argon, nitrogen and oxygen supply options.

"Our Microbulk Service program here was modeled after successful programs in Europe and South Africa. The concept has become more popular in North America, so Air Products has embarked on a strategy to roll it out in more than 20 markets in the United States and Canada over the next two years," said John Tapley, Microbulk business manager. The service has already been embraced by the metals processing industry, and Air Products expects similar acceptance from customers in the biotechnology, foods, electronics and healthcare industries as well.

Air Products Microbulk Service's most immediate impact is with the metals industry. With relatively small gas volume requirements, most metals processing operations have historically relied on high-pressure cylinders and dewars—a labor-intensive approach that too often results in wasted residual gas and has the potential for interrupted supply, cross-contamination and safety issues.

Today, metals processors are relying more heavily on Microbulk delivery services, as well as new on-site storage and blending systems that bring the advantages of bulk supply to operations with less than traditional bulk delivery volumes. Air Products' Microbulk Service is the newest entrant in this changing marketplace. Whether it is argon or nitrogen for heat-treating furnace atmospheres, nitrogen or oxygen for laser-assist gases, or argon and argon blends for weld shielding, Microbulk supply can mean efficient, economical and reliable supply for small-volume users.

Air Products Announces Surcharge For L/B Oxygen, Nitrogen, And Argon Customers And Price Increase For Hydrogen, Helium Customers

Effective March 15, 2005, Air Products (NYSE:APD) will institute a surcharge of $.30 per 1000 standard cubic feet on liquid/bulk oxygen, nitrogen and argon. This surcharge is required to offset extraordinary increases in power, natural gas, coal, diesel fuel and distribution costs associated with merchant oxygen, nitrogen and argon production and distribution.

In addition, hydrogen and helium product pricing will increase by ten percent for merchant customers in North America, and discounts on monthly charges for hydrogen and helium tube trailers will be eliminated. The helium and hydrogen product price increase is necessary to recover continued escalation of feedstock and distribution costs while allowing Air Products to maintain its high standard of safe and reliable customer service and supply.

Air Products is also advising its hydrogen customers that in response to natural gas volatility, supply contracts will be restructured to enhance their ability to more effectively recover increases in natural gas cost.

It also validates an impressive commercial track record, as sales of BIP cylinders have grown tenfold over the last five years to become the new Analytical Industry standard.

Compressed gases for high precision analytical applications such as gas chromatography and mass spectrometry are often supplied in high pressure cylinders, but frequently experience contamination problems that compromise performance.
